thynan 6 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) Hi! I have mutliple admins on my emby server, so we can maintain our media library together. However, I don't want every admin to see every user that is currently playing media. I consider this somewhat of a privacy issue... Is there any way to disable the "Active Devices" and "Recent Activity" panels in the Admin Dashboard? Or disable the Dashboard tab altogether? I know that i can hide it with css, but this only works in the web app. Android, IOS apps etc are not affected by this. Edited January 31, 2018 by thynan
Happy2Play 9783 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I would assume this would have to extend to the log tab also all the same information is there. And the Reports plugin as it has access to the Activities Report. Sorry there are currently no options for this.
thynan 6 Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 yes, potentially it has to extend to the reports plugin and the log tab as well, however that's more of a secondary thing. The dashboard is just very "in your face". You almost can't avoid snooping on your fellow emby-users if you are an admin and go to the backend.
ebr 16187 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 If the dashboard is disabled for an admin user, what is the point of that user being admin...?
thynan 6 Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) By dashboard I specifically mean the first page of the "Admin Backend", which is called "dashboard" in the right hand menu. I don't mean the whole backend. Even more specifically I want to disable the "active devices" and "recent activity" panels on this page. An admin can stil access all the other pages on the backend, and therefore edit users, manage the library, manage subtitles, see detailled infos about the files and audio-tracks etc. I can modify the css, or even directly edit the html files on the server. However this only works for the web-app. Is there any way I can modify the dashboard for the different apps? Edited January 31, 2018 by thynan
ebr 16187 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Okay, so what you are really asking for is a more complex permission system with roles for what can and cannot be done. That's a nice idea for the future.
thynan 6 Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 A more fine-grained permission/role system would certainly be the correct solution for this. However, what I would love to know is, if there is any way to disable the two aforementioned panels for everyone. Is the only way to alter the emby source-code and building from source, or is there any other, less intrusive way?
Luke 42082 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I agree that roles would make sense as opposed to just admin vs non-admin, and we have been gradually moving in that direction by making more permissions selectable instead of relying on admin status.
thynan 6 Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 Absolutely. But may I ask again: is there is any way to disable the "Active Devices" and "Recent Activity" Panels in the dashboard? Is the only way to alter the emby source-code and building from source, or is there any other, less intrusive way?
thynan 6 Posted February 3, 2018 Author Posted February 3, 2018 Thanks for the info. I have some programming experience, do you think it would be possible to write a plugin which hides the two panels, or would that be hard to do via the plugin system?
ebr 16187 Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 This could not be done via a plug-in at this time.
