Hi Luke,

I`ve tested version 3.5.3.0. The problem still exists.

Do you know when it will be fixed?

thx

Jonas

That statement applies to 3.6.  3.5.3.0 was just a hotfix for the issue that arose with the Chrome 69 update.

Hi Luke,

I just read this topic and see the same behavior with emby 4.6.4.0.

If I create a folder within a "Home videos & photos" library with a single video file in it, it will not be shown as a folder, the video file is shown insteat.

If I create an other folder with 2 video files or 1 video file + a photo, the folder will be shown as folder.

Can you give an update to that issue?

Thanks

Matthias

You put the video directly into the top level library, therefore there is no subfolder to display, correct? Or am I missing something?

Sorry Luke, I try to make it clear.

Library toplevel contains the year of the shooting 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021...

all sub directories are sorted by date year-month-day or by event year-month-name of the event

in this subfolders are the media files -> photos and mp4 videos

name of the media files sorted by date/time will say year-month-day-hourHminuteMsecond-#.extension

grafik.thumb.png.d70d8da83a13951ca7b9d6cef4819458.png

the problem will shown with folder 2012-06-13. In this folder iat only 1 mp4 media file with a poster.jpg:

grafik.thumb.png.2aabed53004d54010da207ed99ddb426.png

in emby this will shown like this:

grafik.thumb.png.225fef16aed4de4f842946087532fa7b.png

The folder 2021-06-13 ist not sortet correctly, it was placed at the end of the list.

And the folder is not shown, the media fils itselt will be in place insteat.

If you need more input, please let me know.

Thanks

Matthias

Hi, 2021-06-13 is showing as a video folder as the icon is different.

Hi cayars,

no. this is not a folder with a different icon at the corner.

If I click on it this screen will shown:

grafik.thumb.png.b1a03767f676f30d1becbb9ca4c5735e.png

The link shown nearby the folders ist a video link.

Thanks

Just look at the top left corner in the folder view.  There are a couple different icons that can be shown and this one is video.

Up top on this Folder view what is the sort by set to?

Technically there is a old switch config hack to make folder levels show folder instead of collapsing the item.

Note this is a destructive process (scan removes and re-adds items) for the libraries you edit.

Shut down Emby

go to your system.xml and change <CollapseVideoFolders>true</CollapseVideoFolders> to <CollapseVideoFolders>false</CollapseVideoFolders>

Then there is a switch in each library options.xml <CollapseSingleItemFolders>true</CollapseSingleItemFolders> to <CollapseSingleItemFolders>false</CollapseSingleItemFolders>.

I would only change your home videos library personally.

Right it's because of Media Browser special sauce to have the video swallow the whole folder in some cases. At some point that needs to go away.

Gentlemen, thanks a lot for your help!

@cayars the sort of the page is set to filename:

grafik.thumb.png.61868c5c9ddc569d865169d0c3b761b0.png

therefor it is not only the colapse of the folder - like Happy2Play named this effect - it is also the worng sorting of content of single file folders.

@Happy2Play that is an interesting option, I will check it and give you feedback in this thread

@Luke I'm looking forward to got that fixed! If the workaround Happy2Play described before will work fine, there is no preasure ;) but the private photo and video feature with emby is most important.

best regards

Matthias

Try sort by Title instead and let us know if that helps.

Yes cayars, sort by Title will defeat the problem with the wrong sorting.

Thx

Did you try it?

Can you show us what that gives you?

The page looks like this while setting the sort to Title:

grafik.thumb.png.c5342b0e65728d049bb11e79a2310ef1.png

The single video file is sorted correctly!

I'll try the .xml hint from Happy2Play too and report the summary it here.

thx

If this works I would not try the other thing unless you're ok rescanning your library to test and then to change it back and rescan again, as it's a destructive process.

Posted

I have a full backup of my metadata by hand ;)

But what do you exact mean with destructive? What kind of informatione will be lost by rescanning the library?

I'd suggest reading this thread:

But personally I don't think you need to do this if sort by title is working for you.

OK I'd try the <CollapseSingleItemFolders>false</CollapseSingleItemFolders> switch, restart emby and check /emby/root/deafult/*/options.xml

options.xml for Home videos & photos was already set to "false" and the result looks very good:

grafik.thumb.png.ebb614cb33ff58e1d50b8d9580ce1063.png

the folder ist in place and sort correctly -> 2021-06-13

grafik.thumb.png.9f5c307c5cc3365992946a7031396bd2.png

grafik.thumb.png.c16d90d680501aa3ff86bbca049fd732.png

But as I 've been warned, all custom settings with the meta data in the whole library was deleted and I has to restore emby from backup to get it back.

All over all the hint from cayars works well to resolv the sorting problem. For the folder issu I will wait for further solutions.

Again, thanks for the great support!

beste regards

Thanks for the feedback.

As an additional note the system.xml <CollapseVideoFolders> is a global library level override so if it is "true" then it does not matter what the libraries options.xml <CollapseSingleItemFolders> is set to.

It's still a problem in 4.7.8.0 in the Movies library.

Subfolders containing 1 item show on the main folder page (using Folder view), subfolders with 2 files show as a folder.

A subfolder with 3 files or 50 files may show or may not show at all, anywhere in Emby.

It doesn't seem to be a limit on folder structure depth - I have Movies->Documentaries->Nightwish->From Wishes to Eternity with 3 movie clips and it shows fine

Movies->Documentaries->Nightwish->Interviews doesn't show anywhere in Emby in folder view, whether I put 1 movie clip in it, or 3, or 57.

HI there @ramseyn can you please show us the folder contents of a specific example? Thanks.
