johnvick 1 Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Hi all, I have emby-server (free version) running on Intel Atom based mini-PC running DietPi Linux. Port forwarding is default, and I have self-signed cert for https. I can connect using LAN and WAN http and https using Windows laptop, Android phone and tablet using Emby app (free version) and browser interfaces. My iPad mini it connects on LAN and WAN using Safari and Chrome browser interfaces but the Emby app (paid for) only connects from the LAN. Can't work this out. I get the message "Can't connect to the server right now" or similar. Any ideas why this is? Here is a log: https://pastebin.com/jvmBL44p I am aware I am using an unsupported version of Mono - this problem also happened when I was using the earlier approved version. Thanks, John
Luke 42077 Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 It's because we're not able to force the ios app to accept the self signed cert. you would need a trusted ssl cert such as lets encrypt.
johnvick 1 Posted January 24, 2018 Author Posted January 24, 2018 Thanks very much for the quick response - I haven't used lets encrypt as I understand dyndns don't support it. But shouldn't I be able to connect on http? John
johnvick 1 Posted January 24, 2018 Author Posted January 24, 2018 Haven't been able to get http to work - any idea why this should be? I could be wrong about lets encrypt and dyndns having just researched it - I'll look into that further.
Luke 42077 Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 So http works inside your LAN but not outside, is that correct?
Luke 42077 Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 @@johnvick If you can access it internally in your network, then the only thing I can think of from Emby's point of view is make sure you didn't enable the setting in emby server to require https. Apart from that, I think you'd have to review your port forwarding. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !
johnvick 1 Posted January 26, 2018 Author Posted January 26, 2018 Thanks Luke but this is all working on Android phone and tablet, and http / https works from the ipad mini browser, its just the IOS app that doesn't work with both http and https - but only when away from home. So I am sure Emby is set up properly and the port forwarding correct.
Luke 42077 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 If you go to the advanced section of your emby server, have you checked the box to require https? 1
johnvick 1 Posted January 27, 2018 Author Posted January 27, 2018 Yes I have - I'll untick and see if this works next time I am away from home. Thanks for pointing this out.
johnvick 1 Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 All good Luke, I was away from home this week and Emby worked fine on the Ipad - thanks again for your help.
