I have noticed constant update in Kodi4emby, once I add one or two files, and the process goes through several update, and it never stopped at times. The behavior is so erratic on Kodi that it become impossible to watch movies because it is constantly updating or refreshing even movies that were old ie those which are added several years ago. When I check the server I noticed several error I'm not sure what could have caused this issue , and I hate to speculate pls review the log and advice of what I should do to resolve this nuance.

Thanks

Wasn't there a setting to not show the progress bar during updates?

Not sure I understand your point

Yes there is such a setting, but it has no effect on actual updates that shouldn't be happened or that simply repeats because the server is throwing errors.

I know that. I was replying to Fratopolis' suggestion.

Sorry I can't help you with this. It's not a Kodi issue and I'm not familiar server stuff.

Sorry. I was only posting that to help so you could still watch without the annoying updating bar until resolved. Didn't mean to suggest it was a fix. My bad. Again sorry.

Emby has settings in the Library-->manage folders that prevent it from updating "old" or existing metadata never update, 30 days, 60 days and 90 days. Have you looked there to see how it is set up currently?  I had similar issues when I used Kodi and changing those settings solved most if not all of the syncing issues I was seeing with emby for Kodi.

Go here:

http://localhost:8096/web/library.html

Use the 3 Dot menu for each library --> select manage folders --> scroll down to "automatically refresh metadata from the internet" select never or one of the other options see screenshot.

Do this for each of your libraries.

One other thing you can try is the metadata manager:

http://localhost:8096/web/edititemmetadata.html

Lock the metadata for the media that you know will not need to update - movies, series that have ended etc. -- if you are going to do this in bulk it is simpler to use Notepad++ - you can search and replace by several different methods - look for: <lockdata>false</lockdata> replace with: <lockdata>true</lockdata> ---USE CAUTION!!   make sure you do this only to those media you want locked.

Does that clear it up for you?

That option was set to "Never" from inception, I will exploit other option suggested, but it's strange this issue started recently

If that is the case then you are having a different issue.  Is the Emby-Kodi sync actually completing? It can be temperamental. But if it is not completing for some reason then that may be why. You may want uninstall the sync queue plugin in Emby and then see if it completes the initial sync (reset your Kodi database and start from scratch is another thing to consider before attempting an initial sync also) if you get the initial sync to complete then you can reinstall the plugin in Emby.  I found Kodi to be very sensitive to user interaction during the sync process(one of many reasons I finally dumped it) and the sync would freeze, then it had to start all over again.

This may be your issue - again may be something else going on.

Sensitive to user interaction. I've never had a single issue. I have between 10-15 updates daily. A few titles causes the server to throw errors and update the content for no reason. The rest is stuff I watched during the day.

If you have more updates than that, then your setup is not optimized. If you get a huge amount of updates, you'll have a harder time running a smooth setup especially with Emby for Kodi because it is based on having your database exist in Kodi.

If you can't optimize then I suggest Embycon. Dynamic listings, no syncing will be friendlier to your setup.

I just take a pick at the server log, there a continuous error creation, could someone help troubleshoot  the reason for this VERY ANNOYING driving  do I need to rebuild my server from scratch, that would be my last option coz it could take days before metadata and other info are fully captured, even that may not solve the issue, if there is inherent  bug in my system or application (speculation!)

My experience with emby for kodi was good overall but it was sensitive when doing initial syncs and large update incremental syncs - any interaction by the user and the sync would freeze.

Not sure what you mean by optimize.

+1 EmbyCon is the better way to go, a different approach, slightly less cable (IMO) but definitely the easier, better way to go. Unless you just dump Kodi and use the Emby apps - again different, less bells and whistles, but it just works.

Appreciate ALL inputs, I have been using E4K for over two years it gets better from one version to another especially V3+ the playback throttle have improved the response of the playback  which I believed it's due to rewrite codes, Kudos to Angeblue for her commitment and continual supports  to the forum.

Without any technical knowledge, and as per AngelBlue the issue is not from E4K, that lead me to conclude it must be on the server side, it's obvious there are several error logs on the server side what that meant I have no clue.

I'm hope server developers will have time to address the issue and advice with solutions .

@ Luke, thanks for jumping in, sorry I'm not sure of what you mean by example, I thought the logs file had captured ALL the activities in the server which help to deduce what is going, let me know precisely what you need me to provide.

Cheers!
