ChrisJ60 13 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 I just started using Emby (3.2.60.0) [on macOS as it happens] and my library has duplicate entries for some people so they show up multiple times in searches. Some of these entries are identical to one another while others are not (sometimes one of the copies has info missing). Is there any way to manually remove or merge the duplicates (or get Emby to resolve this automatically)? I was looking for some function to edit 'People' metadata but there doesn't seem to be one. Thanks for any pointers.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 You would have to provide examples, but only time I see this happen is your TV or movie metadata has different spellings for actors. You have to be careful editing people in Emby as you could make them just disappear do to metadata mismatches.
ChrisJ60 13 Posted January 21, 2018 Author Posted January 21, 2018 I'm not sure what kind of 'example' you want? I have two identical versions of 'Patrick Stewart' in my library and as far as I can see they are identical down to the last detail. Please see the attached images (Search Results page and both versions of the man himself). If you want other info, logs etc. just let me know...
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 If you select Edit Info on each one, do they have the same path?
Luke 42079 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 If you click on each of the patrick stewarts in the web app, is the url in the browser address bar the same?
ChrisJ60 13 Posted January 21, 2018 Author Posted January 21, 2018 No, the ‘id’ value is different in the two URLs.
Luke 42079 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 Ok, this can actually be a little difficult to crawl out of. On a brand new server installation this should never happen anymore. The problem is that this is created by an older server and there's no easy way to get rid of it. The only way I can think of would be removing Patrick Stewart from all titles, running the people refresh which will purge Patrick Stewart, and then adding him back to the media titles after. This should work, but i haven't actually tried this. Thanks.
ChrisJ60 13 Posted January 22, 2018 Author Posted January 22, 2018 Hmmm. I did have an older version of the server installed on this machine but I had removed all the Libraries in that before upgrading. I guess that didn't fully clean up the metadata repository for some reason? Anyway, I am still in 'experimental' mode so what is the process to completely reset everything back to 'just installed' condition so I can be sure I am starting from clean this time? Thanks.
Luke 42079 Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 if you want just installed condition then honestly i think the easiest thing to do is uninstall reinstall. is that what you're looking for?
ChrisJ60 13 Posted January 22, 2018 Author Posted January 22, 2018 Yes, but the question is what is the procedure to do a full uninstall, removing all existing data? The normal macOS 'uninstall' of just deleting the App won't achieve that. Is there a macOS 'uninstaller' for Emby? If not, what files/directories must be removed in order to completely uninstall Emby and delete all data? If there is a doc on this somewhere feel free to point me to it.
Luke 42079 Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 ok you can actually keep your installation as is. near the top of your emby server log you will see it prints out the program data path. just shutdown and delete that folder. thanks.
jonomite 29 Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 @@ChrisJ60 Did you ever end up solving this problem? I have the exact same issue.
Luke 42079 Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 @@ChrisJ60 Did you ever end up solving this problem? I have the exact same issue. Can you please describe the issue that you're having? thanks.
jonomite 29 Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 I have the exact same issue as OP. Doing a search for an actor (e.g. "George Clooney") results in two identical results. The only difference is the URL in id value in the web address.
Luke 42079 Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Ok, if it helps at all, for new installations I don't think it is possible for that to happen anymore.
ChrisJ60 13 Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 @@jonomite - I wiped all of my Emby data and rebuilt from scratch. Since I was still in early 'test' mode at the time this wasn't a big issue for me (it would be a huge issue if I had to do it now). I haven't had the problem occur again since I did that.

jakob2140 0 Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 I noticed this today with Ashley Greene. This is a fairly new installation from around may this year. I hope this can be resolved without a reinstallation! Thanks.

I always take the one with least amount of media attached so in this example the one with only one movie and removed all providerids or at works all metadata/image from that person and refresh metadata on the movie. That usually relinks the to the one with metadata. There is some database cleanup that happens but the /metadata/people folders are never removed.
