mwkurt 5 Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 (edited) Hello, I am trying to set up Emby plugin in Kodi on a Firestick. I can't get past initial sync because the Firestick will suddenly just appear to quit. The screen goes black for a few seconds and then I am back at the Firestick Desktop. Kodi is closed and syncing has stopped. Does not appear to happen at any one place during the sync. Sorry, did not know whether this should be in the Kodi Emby forum or here. Help is much appreciated. Thank you, Mark Edited January 13, 2018 by mwkurt
Angelblue05 4132 Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Use Embycon. You'll have a better experience on those lower powered device as it does not require syncing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mwkurt 5 Posted January 13, 2018 Author Posted January 13, 2018 Angelblue5, Thank you for your suggestion, however, that really doesn't fix the problem I am having. That is more of a workaround. Would appreicate help in trying to get my particular problem solved. Thanks! Mark
Luke 42078 Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 @@Angelblue05, isn't there a thread count setting of some sort? Maybe he could reduce that?
Angelblue05 4132 Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 (edited) Yep, what null_pointer said is right. That's usually what causes this issue, when the add-on forces Kodi to cache all artwork. Usually it results in timeouts (if your server can't keep up with providing artwork and metadata at the same time) and because of it, Kodi ends up spawning too many threads and crashing. I still believe you'll have a better experience using Embycon for low powered devices. You can also build your database on a faster machine and just restore it to the firestick. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/plugin.video.emby/wiki/Create-and-restore-from-backup Edited January 13, 2018 by Angelblue05
Solution mwkurt 5 Posted January 14, 2018 Author Solution Posted January 14, 2018 Try turning off pre caching of images and art in the addon settings. Apart from that try the EmbyCon addon. Turning off pre caching of images did the trick! Thank you! 1
mwkurt 5 Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 I actually did load up Embycon on the Firestick. Did not like the main menu being devoid of "Movies" and "TV Shows" menu items. I am partial to the Confluence skin and did not know how nor want to delve into making changes to skin files. Thanks again!
Angelblue05 4132 Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Turning off pre caching of images did the trick! Thank you! Thank you for this information. I'll add a prompt to the initial setup to disable this option in the future.
