justinds89 3 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 I just purchased a lifetime of Emby Premiere. I can connect fine locally to the server, but if I try to connect remotely it will show my server, but the connection fails. I have disabled Windows Firewall to eliminate that as being the issue. Any help would be appreciated as I would like to get this up an running. Justin
ebr 16169 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Hi. Can you please go through the Connection Troubleshooter and tell us at which step it fails? Thanks.
justinds89 3 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Hi. Can you please go through the Connection Troubleshooter and tell us at which step it fails? Thanks. Thanks for the quick reply. I ran through these steps and it fails to even bring up the server page when I use the public IP and Port number. I have not setup port forwarding on my router yet, but I can try that soon as I get a chance. I thought with Emby Connect that this was not necessary and that I should be able to just log in remotely without the IP or port forwarding? Justin
ebr 16169 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 The port must be open to access your server from the outside. Consider your router as your front door. If it is closed and locked, nothing can get in.

I used the canyouseeme.org service and it couldn't see the port open it shows.

I used the canyouseeme.org service and it couldn't see the port open it shows. Then the port is not properly forwarded. Before anything will work with external access, you need to get that test to succeed.
justinds89 3 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Okay, there is really only one way to forward the port on the router though and I even rebooted the router after forwarding the port to make sure the rule was active. Here is a screenshot for reference. The Internal IP Address is the local IP of the server running Emby.

Hi - You need to specify the device you're forwarding and the IP address - make sure that you've given the device a static internal IP to make that task easier. If you could also let us know what router you're using I can hopefully find a guide on forwarding on that specific router for you.

The internal IP address is to the server itself. The router I am using is a Netgear Orbi.

Looking up that router - it seems you need to disable UpNP to allow port forwarding to work, can you disable and test again? May need to reboot the router again afterwards.
justinds89 3 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 I came across that article too and I tried disabling that, but still the port is not open even after a reboot. I'm not really sure what's going on as that forwarding rule should be correct and I've gone over it several times.
Guest asrequested Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 You need to use the external IP, not the the local IP.
justinds89 3 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 You need to use the external IP, not the the local IP. I thought I was forwarding the port to the local IP of the server? So basically when I hit the external IP it points it to the internal server. I don't see how putting the external IP in there would work at all, but I can try it.
ebr 16169 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 You need to use the external IP, not the the local IP. No, he needs to map to the internal address of the server machine.
ebr 16169 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Are you trying to test this while actually on your local network? If so, most routers disable loopback so that could be why your test is failing.

Seems like there's a few differences per router on that product range.

If so, most routers disable loopback so that could be why your test is failing. I am running the canyouseeme.org test from the local PC, but I have been trying to connect remotely to the Emby server. I get the following error "We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again.".

Koame 0 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 The model number is RBR50. Can you follow this for me and see how far you get?
Guest asrequested Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 No, he needs to map to the internal address of the server machine. Oh right, of course. My mind was somewhere else
justinds89 3 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Can you follow this for me and see how far you get? I have done everything in that link already except for the port check. I went through everything again to make sure and I rand their port checker. I get "Your port is NOT OPEN or not reachable!". I don't see what else I can really do differently as far as the forwarding goes.

All else fails, try that and if that continues to not work; contact the manufacturer as this will be an issue with the router itself.
justinds89 3 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Okay, thank you for the help. If anyone else has any ideas it would be appreciated. I may try the factory reset when I get an opportunity though. I haven't really had any issues with the Orbi mesh system up until this and has been very reliable. I'm not sure if the port forwarding is basically doing nothing or if something else could be going on. I may send them an email or post in the forums there as I really need to get this working if possible.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Have you restarted your router and the machine Emby is installed on?
justinds89 3 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Have you restarted your router and the machine Emby is installed on? I have restarted my router numerous times, but not the machine Emby is on as I haven't had the chance. Let me try that and if it doesn't work at least we can rule it out.
