Jdiesel 1431 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Am I the only one disappointed in the practice of only including the Atmos audio track on the 4K version of the Bluray and not the regular Bluray that has become a common practice? As someone who has a Atmos hometheater with a 1080p projector I need to shell out the extra $10 for the 4K version. Now I see why you would want to get the 4K version anyways for future use but I guess I still think it is a shady practice.

Disc sales are pretty bad these days, and UHD hasn't caught on as much as they'd like, so I guess they're doing what they can to upsell. I wouldn't mind it so much if the BRD included in the UHD packaging had an Atmos track, but that would require a whole other disc to be produced (and they love reusing discs). Jdiesel 1431 Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 Not to mention that software to decrypt AACS 2.0 isn't readily available or has a high cost which only forces people to get their digital copies from "other" sources. Maybe once I can rip a UHD Bluray myself easily I won't mind purchasing them as much but right now I'm not too happy about it.
Guest asrequested Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 You just need to make sure your optical drive supports triple layer discs. Other than that, ripping is easy.

Jdiesel 1431 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Does DVDfab work with protected UHD Blurays? Last I heard the only software to work with AACS 2.0 is DeUHD which is very new and expensive.

It also requires specific drives, etc. There is some progress being made outside of it, but the keys are trickling out very slowly and has even tighter drive/model/firmware restrictions.
Guest asrequested Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Interesting. I'll have to keep watch on that. I must confess, that I haven't actually tried to. But now I want to....just because... Lol
