Sky12016 3 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 stores the info in the database only Hello @@PenkethBoy So this means that it does download from the internet anyway and regardless of the unticked box?
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 sorry i miss read if those are unchecked it will not go and look the nfo's you have already with your media will be imported to the database and shown by the interface just try it out with a small test library - its fairly obvious
Sky12016 3 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 if those are unchecked it will not go and look the nfo's you have already with your media will be imported to the database and shown by the interface Thanks for the clarification. So assembling ALL the info shared in this thread I think that I am going to give Emby a go. I will begin with a couple of movies for testing purposes. I will NOT integrate it to Kodi (Emby addon) until the "Watched Status" issue becomes a non-issue. I will keep using mysql database for kodi clients around my network. I am thinking to instruct Emby to NOT download metadata for its initial scan but rather use the kodi exported ones; and to not store metadata in my media folders altogether. Then; after the import I will turn the download metadata thing on and see how ti goes with new files. I am actually curious how Emby will handle a refresh. I will also be using the boxset plugin for movie collections and hope that my kodi created nfos will play well alongside it. I don't really have any smartlists so I won't bother with that. All in all I want to say thank you to all for your help/input. And on a side-note I have to say from videos and screenshots Emby looks fantastic. Apart from its appealing looks the remote control ability is a big advantage, and taking into consideration the open source vibe of the whole endeavour, one can only say bravo! Keep up the good work lads. Cheers! 1
samplerico 0 Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 I fail to see where using Emby for Kodi limits Kodi functionality - I haven't observed that in any way. Granted not using native paths can cause incompatibilities with some addons, but that is only going to affect you if you plan on using Kodi remotely; something you would have previously been unable to do with Kodi by itself. People always make the mistake of comparing Emby/Plex to Kodi, but they are infact entirely different types of product. Kodi = Media Player, Emby/Plex = Media Server. Setting it up is not difficult - 1) Add the external share path to the substitution bit under each library in Emby. 2) Install the addon in Kodi, enter your server url, username, password; maybe select a few options. 3) Wait for it to sync. That's it - 3 steps; how precisely could that be improved upon? In regards to having to reset your local database - well yes, that's the price you pay for direct library integration. The ability to modify the existing database to match Emby's would be a very difficult and error prone thing to do; if it were possible at all. The Kodi addon people almost always answer any queries. The watched status thing is only a problem initially, once you get over migrating to Emby - watched status, playback progress both sync extremely well. Overall the Kodi addon works extremely well - better in fact than most other Emby apps. So thanks @@Angelblue05 and the rest of the Kodi addon devs, you've done a terrific job. @@samplerico you've complained a lot, but not really given any suggestion as to how YOU would do it better. Or perhaps maybe it's your understanding that needs to improve? Oh i made two posts already listing whats in my opinion wrong. But you are maybe a bit over sensitive? I've seen a post from you talking about implementing MySQL into Emby the answer from devs was really really poor. And their knowledge about MySQL was concerning. Maybe Emby community and devs can start by being a bit more humble because their backend is not really that great. NFO's reading is pretty terrible in my opinion, for example and some things like not having an abstraction of the collection separate from the source file recognition are pretty terrible poor decisions, i mean dude, read my posts, i listed whats wrong, and all you guys are doing is proving me right by confirming things i have already said, and beating around the bush trying to disguise other things that are not that great. Anyway, i don't care that much, Emby experience has been pretty terrible and i managed to fix my MySQL speed access to mmy server with Kodi so i don't really will look back to Emby in a long time. Lot to be improved.
CBers 7450 Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Another happy long time Kodi/XBMC convert Hi guys, I'm a long time Kodi/XMBC veteran, but new to Emby. I installed Emby earlier this evening, and successfully installed the Emby for Kodi Addon, and have it setup and working.
samplerico 0 Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Another happy long time Kodi/XBMC convert You are two already, congrats. Emby is the best thing ever.
