MB Rich 4 Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) As the title really. Theater doesn't seem to want to play any of my HEVC files. If I disable HW acceleration they play (poorly) but with HW acceleration on Auto I just get a spinning circle and no playback, forcing me to quit Theater and restart it. They play perfectly well through the web interface (server is on the same machine) and MPC-HC plays them fine too. Any ideas? Probably worth adding that the box is an i5 Broadwell NUC. MB Rich 4 Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Are you using the store app? Don't think so. Downloaded it from the website years ago and have just updated it since.
Guest asrequested Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Don't think so. Downloaded it from the website years ago and have just updated it since. Oh you're using the legacy app? If yes, you need to go get the current app.
MB Rich 4 Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 It's still current isn't it? I'm on version 2.9.6 Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
MB Rich 4 Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Can we see the emby server log? thanks. Sure: server-63651131867.txt
Luke 42077 Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 That's strange. it never even really gets to the point of trying to play. If you restart the emby theater app, does this still happen?
MB Rich 4 Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 Yep. Restarting the app, the server and even the pc makes no difference. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Luke 42077 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 have you customized any other video playback settings in the app? I would try setting everything back to default. thanks.
MB Rich 4 Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 have you customized any other video playback settings in the app? I would try setting everything back to default. thanks. I think everything is on default / auto, but I can have a look tonight when I get home.
MB Rich 4 Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 Great, thanks. Actually, could I achieve the same effect by just uninstalling and reinstalling Theater?
Guest asrequested Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I was going to suggest a clean install. What GPU do you have?
MB Rich 4 Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 I uninstalled Theater, ticking all the boxes to clear down the data. Reinstalled again from scratch and it stil has the same issue ; plays with no HW acceleration, but nothing with auto HW acceleration. The GPU is the onboard Intel one. The processor is an i5 5250U (link) which has the HD6000 GPU. It has worked previously which is the odd thing as I'm certain I've watched these episodes through Emby previously.
Luke 42077 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 So if it plays with no hwa, then why not just play and enjoy the show?
Guest asrequested Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Try auto copyback, and see what happens.
rechner123 12 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Hi I think as he wrote in first post If I disable HW acceleration they play (poorly)
Guest asrequested Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I may have to set you up with some logging and then I can see where it's falling down.

MB Rich 4 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 How to set up mpv logging I'll try to get this set up tonight and let you know.
MB Rich 4 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 How to set up mpv logging Log attached as requested:
Guest asrequested Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Click attach file, and describe what you did and settings you tried
MB Rich 4 Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Click attach file, and describe what you did and settings you tried Doh, browsed to the file, but didn't click the button. Now attached. That was a clean Theater install, HW acceleration to Auto and trying to play the episode. It hid the Emby interface, showed the backdrop for the series with a spinning circle that just sat there doing nothing. theatermpvlog.txt
