DLNA transcoding issue

Hello,

I recently purchased a new TV for my bedroom.  This is how Emby identifies it:

Samsung SmartTV

(UN40MU6290)

I was hoping to use the Emby App for it but there are some transcoding issues preventing me from doing so.

Let me explain the situation.  I recently have purchased the 3 Bleach box sets on blu-ray.  These are different than the DVD as they are not by season.  So the first box set spans all of season 1 and part of season 2.  On the disc the episodes are contained in one large file.  I used MakeMKV to rip it and MKVTooNix to split it up.  Once it was spilt into the individual episodes I discovered the video had been padded on both sides.  This created a black box all the way around on my TV screen.  I then again used MKVToolNix to split out the video file and Handbrake to trim it to 1440 x 1080.  Once I had the video cropped I put it all back together with MKVToolNix.  I tested this episode in Emby.  The playback was good on the TV.  I repeated this process for each episode in batch mode.  Today I was watching these new rips and playback began to stutter when starting season 2.  I jumped onto the Emby web interface and it displayed that it was “Transcoding…” not “Direct playing”.  These episodes are literally ripped from the same disc/file, processed exactly the same.

I am unsure what to do to fix this.  Do I need to create a new DLNA profile specific to this TV and change some settings?

I am including both the server log and the transcoding log as well as a dump from MKVInfo for both files.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What is the issue with the Emby app?

Posted

I am not sure if it is the app or the server.  I do not believe it should be transcoding.  My server is not very powerful and cannot transcode. The rip of season 1 episode 21 is off of the same disc as season 2 episode 1.  Why is season 2 transcoding when season 1 is not?  Is it a app problem, server problem or DLNA profile problem?  I don't know.

I love Emby and have very few problems with it.  I can usually tailor it to work the way I want, but this problem is eluding me.

Thnaks,

Are these log files from the app or from the dlna feature?

Posted (edited)

The log files are from the Emby server.  The other two text files provide container info as provided by MKVInfo.  They are from the season 1 episode 21 and season 2 episode 1 mkv files.  I am providing those just for reference.

Luke,

I don't know how I missed it, but the info button on the dashboard shows the reason for transcoding; "Subtitle format not supported".  This is anime and contains both the english and japanese audio tracks.  I only use the english audio tracks after I have watched it with the japanese audio track with subtitles.

So now I have tried to turn off the subtitles.  Yet if I restart the video, the subtitles are back on.  There is something persisting beyond the setting chosen from the app.  Is there a way to clear the subtitle selection flags?

Update:

I found the main settings (Settings->Playback->Subtitles) in the client app to turn off subtitles.  This is sufficient to resolve my issue.  I am moving to a Dell r5500 with Nvidia Quadro card that should resolve any hardware issues with transcoding in the future.

Thanks,
