Hi,

I need some assistance regarding Intel quicksync and the processor above with Server 2012 R2. I would really like to use gpu transcoding to as I am having issues when multiple users are trying to stream. I have an Nvidia GTX 970 but I understand this is limited to 2 streams.

Thanks

Quicksync uses the Intel GPU built into the CPU.  NVENC uses an external GPU.  So they are mutually exclusive.  You have to either disable/remove your GTX and use the onboard GPU for Quicksync, or use NVENC, which as you mentioned has the 2 stream constraint.

Thanks for replying, the problem I have is when I removed the Nvidia card GPU transcoding is not working. I cannot seem to find the graphics driver for the E3 processor, does anyone else have the same CPU here maybe they can comment.

Thanks

couple of things

do you have the Intel graphics drivers loaded?

do you have a monitor connected to the Intel motherboard HDMI port?

i have 2012r2 as well but i do not have the drivers loaded and cannot use QS as its not seen by the "system"

you may need to trick the system into detecting a ghost monitor - this was/is needed for win7 - google is your friend for the details

you may have more luck taking the 970 out of the system as a test and/or loading the drivers

i have a i7 4790s in my server which has a similar passmark score to your Xeon and can do a couple of transcodes at the same time with no performance hit (Processing a movie via Handbrake h264 1080p and Emby transcoding a Movie to play to a client) with room to spare

But my server is not doing anything else while the above is happening so YMMV

OK I have tried alot of different things and just cannot get the Intel graphics driver to install for Server 2012. When using the Nvidia GPU to transcode for example 3 streams at once will the third one just fail or will the cpu do the transcoding?

Thanks,

It should try to use the GPU for the third and then automatically switch to CPU if it fails.

Thanks I will test this out also should I be using the Beta for the Nvidia transcoding or just the standard build?

Ok so I just tested and was able to play 3 things at once so that's good. Experiencing some weird problems though like I cannot stop one of the streams, custom intro repeating with no picture will report more after properly testing.

did you remove the nvidia card before you tried the intel drivers?

i managed to load win 8.1 64bit drivers on my Haswell i7 under 2012r2 - used the ones from my M/B - gigabyte - from early 2014 - latest available although there are newer ones on the Intel site which i may play with as well

Now qs is working as its seen by Handbrake :)

Not done any testing yet
