csadoian 36 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Today I was doing some testing on my local network. Specifically, Comcast had emailed me and said they had increased the speed of my internet connection. It was running around 100mbps, and now it's around 180mbps. Unfortunately my router (a Cisco RV042) only has 10/100 WAN ports, so I am unable to take advantage of my new speed until I get a new modem. In order to test my connection and verify I was receiving the speed increase, I disconnected my router from the Arris TM822 that is running in bridge mode. The Emby machine is right next to the Arris, and since it has a gigabit network card I decided to connect it to the Arris. I temporarily deleted the static IP addresses on my Emby server and made it DHCP so it would pick up an address from the Arris. I DID NOT STOP THE EMBY SERVER. I didn't think I needed to, nothing was scheduled to record and no one in the house was home except me. So I fiddled around with speed tests for a while, and after about 45 minutes or so I put the static address back in the Emby server, connected it back to the gigabit hub, and then reconnected my router to the Arris. I then went about my day, and my network seemed to be functioning fine. Come 5:30pm and I glance over to the HDHomeRun tuner and no lights were on (except the power). A recording was supposed to start at 5:30. So I used Chrome to log into the server and noticed there are no menu items for Live TV. Just my libraries. I went to the dashboard and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. In the Live TV section it showed all my tuners as available. I restarted the server and nothing changed. Still haven't got LIVE TV back. I'm going to try a few things like rebooting the Emby Server, Rebooting my router, etc. If I can't get my Live TV back I will be back asking for more help. server-63650707201.txt server-63650770523.txt
csadoian 36 Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 Just rebooted the whole machine. Emby tray icon not visible in the system tray, but there are two embytray.exe running in the process list, along with EmbyServer.exe. Running Emby in Chrome shows no sign of Live TV in the user interface.
csadoian 36 Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 Well, I tried rebooting the server, rebooting my router, rebooting my switches, still no Live TV. Don't understand why doing what I did with the network cable would have caused this Not sure what else to do at this point except start from scratch, would rather not have to re-create all my scheduled shows, since they are not saved by the backup plugin.
Guest asrequested Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) Come 5:30pm and I glance over to the HDHomeRun tuner and no lights were on (except the power) If there's no power, how are the lights, on? Are you sure it's not the network light that isn't off? I misread that. It may be that the IP addresses have been reassigned. Try disconnecting the patch cables, power cycle the tuners, unplug the router, reconnect the patch cables, and power up the router. Are you still using a static IP or going with DHCP? You may want to use DHCP for power cycling, then try the static IP. Edited January 6, 2018 by Doofus

The emby server has a static address, and it's EXACTLY the same one it had before I messed with it. Rebooted router, rebooted switches, rebooted tuners, I am at a loss to explain what happened. I even re-saved my Emby premier key in the dashboard, just to make sure my installation was still being recognized as a Premier installation. Dunno what else I can do. I will give it till tomorrow morning and if it doesn't correct itself the only choice I have is to wipe the installation and start over. The backup/restore plugin will help some, but I loose all my "watched" flags and my recording schedules.
Guest asrequested Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 But the key here is the HDHR unit. When you switched to using DHCP, the IPs probably changed. So you need to get all of your devices to pull new IPs. Why do you think the Emby server has a static IP?

Forgot to mention the tuners are using static IP addresses.
Guest asrequested Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Because I put it there I run all my important stuff with static IP addresses. You may have misunderstood me. What started this was that I TEMPORARILY changed the network settings on my Emby server to DHCP so I could hook it directly to my Comcast Arris modem so I could run a speed test directly, bypassing my router. After the test was over I put the static IP back into the servers network settings and hooked the ARRIS back up to the router. Nothing else was messed with. Rest of my computers on my network work fine. It's only the Emby server that seems to be acting like I'm not a premium user, refusing to show me any of the Live TV controls. I understand. But you're switching between DHCP and static. In DHCP the devices will be assigned IPs by the router, and you may have two devices with the same IP. Obviously, only one device will be used. You can't switch back and forth, thinking that nothing will change. Something has clearly, changed.
Luke 42083 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 In the log where you ran the refresh guide, there was an inability to communicate with your HDHR: 2018-01-05 15:21:43.265 Error HttpClient: Connection to http://192.168.60.80/discover.json timed out
csadoian 36 Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 I understand. But you're switching between DHCP and static. In DHCP the devices will be assigned IPs by the router, and you may have two devices with the same IP. Obviously, only one device will be used. You can't switch back and forth, thinking that nothing will change. Something has clearly, changed. My normal home network has a router in it that services DHCP requests, so DHCP is always on. The components that make up my Emby system (Emby Server, 3 HDHR tuners) all have STATIC IP addresses on the same network. So their addresses never change, so it's impossible under normal conditions for the server to loose contact with the tuners based on IP addresses. However, during the time I was speed testing my Comcast connection the Emby server could not communicate with the tuners, because the server was directly connected to my Comcast modem. The Comcast modem provided a public IP address to the Emby computer so I could run the tests. The rest of the network was unchanged. After I was through with the test I reset the original IP address back into the Emby server and hooked it back into my home network. Simple as that. During the time the server was not on my home network dorked it in some way, because everything functions as before, except the LIVE TV functions. The menus either don't appear or are empty. It's like my server no longer considers itself a Premium Server, even though my key is there and I can access all the Live TV functions in the dashboard.
csadoian 36 Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 In the log where you ran the refresh guide, there was an inability to communicate with your HDHR: 2018-01-05 15:21:43.265 Error HttpClient: Connection to http://192.168.60.80/discover.json timed out Luke, that's because at that time I had the server disconnected from my home network, running the speed tests. Perhaps all I need to do is refresh the guide?
csadoian 36 Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 Luke, that's because at that time I had the server disconnected from my home network, running the speed tests. Perhaps all I need to do is refresh the guide? WOW, that was it!! I started a guide refresh and I can already see the live tv stuff coming back!! So it was my bad luck a guide refresh started just about the time I disconnected the server machine from my home network. NEXT time I will be sure to exit the Emby server BEFORE I monkey around with the Emby computer, network or HDHR tuners.
Solution Luke 42083 Posted January 6, 2018 Solution Posted January 6, 2018 Yes we should obviously make the server more resilient to this sort of thing, but in the meantime refreshing the guide is all you need to do. 1
Guest asrequested Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Huh! Well look at me over thinking it!
