invertedknife 13 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 I got a new vizio TV and when i am connecting via smartcast, i can only pause and not play using the tv remote (or the app). oddly, i can play if i use voice commands using google home. Also in general, can you forward/rewind or next/previous in the chromecast using the remote? or do you have to use the app?

invertedknife 13 Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 Can you do these with google home voice commands? just did a quick test, i can play/pause, forward/back (30s jump) and stop (this exits the app) using google voice. i can also stop using the remote (but pressing the back or exit button) also, using the smartcast app, i actually can't do anything.
invertedknife 13 Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 by smartcast you mean dlna, right? no, vizio tvs come with chromecast buildin, so you don't need an external chromecast dongle. that's what the call smartcast. so when i play stuff on the tv, i am doing to same thing as when i cast to a chrome cast that i have plugged in. btw, i have a samsung tv as well with a plugged in chromecast, i can play/pause there but no forward back.
invertedknife 13 Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 but you can with google home? on the samsung tv? yes. 30s fwd/back. can't go next or previous though
invertedknife 13 Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 sorry for being unclear. as in, go to the next/previous episode. you can't do that. you can skip forward or backwards by 30s.
Luke 42078 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 @@invertedknife, i looked into this and there is no standardized chromecast command for next/previous track, so yes that means you'll have to use the app. thanks.
invertedknife 13 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 no worries, but in terms of the play/pause on vizio tvs and the forwards/back for all, si that being added to the issue tracker? sorry just want to make sure the original concern is addressed. was just trying to be through regarding the previous/next info.
Luke 42078 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I'm not even sure we can do anything about that. Our chromecast receiver is already listening for these commands but Vizio must be sending them in a way that we can't receive.
invertedknife 13 Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 hmm. this may not be a chromecast thing, since vizio have chrome built in, the commands may not being coming in through cec but something else? i don't know, just spitballing here.
Luke 42078 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Sounds like something proprietary to Vizio.
Guest asrequested Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 They want you to use the smartcast app and sync your phone. I haven't tested the remote, on mine, the way you're using it. Maybe I'll play around with that.
invertedknife 13 Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 Update on the issue. I connected a new chromecast to the vizio tv. and play/pause controls do not work. however cec still works for turning the tv on and off and exiting the currently casting app back to chromecast home screen. forward/rewind don't work on any of the tvs when using a remote, but work when using voice. i would like to investigate this further, is there a way to see what commands emby is from cec?
Luke 42078 Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Emby for Chromecast supports play pause over HDMI CEC, and I believe stop and next prev track.
invertedknife 13 Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 Emby for Chromecast supports play pause over HDMI CEC, and I believe stop and next prev track. I can both pause and play on using chromecast samsung tv also is it possible to add forward and rewind support to the chromecast app? i am hoping it's not hard since you can already do that with voice controls.
Luke 42078 Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 We have already implemented all available Chromecast commands for CEC. @@SamES
SamES 1057 Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 October was the last time I checked this and we were handling all the supported CEC messages (which is not many). I can check again in case there has been a firmware update. @@invertedknife, the way voice and CEC commands are implemented by Google are slightly different. Can you please test Chromecast with Netflix or Youtube and let me know if you are able to RW/FF using the remote with those apps? If so, then we should be able to support it. If not, then not at this time. I know it's not what you are after, but you can seek using the cast bar (this is supported like the voice commands to seek forward/back).

Luke 42078 Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 those apps might be interacting with their app on the tv, or perhaps using a private api that we're not aware of. we're doing everything according to spec as far as chromecast volume control is concerned. it really should just work out of the box.
invertedknife 13 Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 I am not talking about the volume control, but the play pause control.
