Luke 42077 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 I really, really want Emby to work with IPTV (I bought a Lifetime Subscription to Emby) but I'm afraid it's just not quite ready yet. Despite all the manual editing of m3u playlists and Guide problems, channels routinely just stop playing or won't load at all with no errors...(signal just drops) but when I test my IPTV on Perfect Player, although the interface is dog ugly, the channels play flawlessly all day long. I am waiting for Emby to Play IPTV so I can get rid of Players like PP. To answer a question above, you can just use notepad ++ to edit your m3u channels but most of us have 4-5000 channels and this is just not a feasible option. If your IPTV provider gave you a log-in, just plop that in a web browser and it spits out your m3u file. I fixed the one playback failure you sent me. If you want to send me another example then I'm happy to go over it. Thanks.
EODCrafter 181 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Ok, got another one. Any idea why my live TV stuff has no meta data? mainly pictures of any kind. Your Guide must support that feature. The one I build does cause it comes from tvguide.com Via Zap2Xml. Here's the command to add all the extras to your guide..... zap2xml.exe -I -O -u joeblow@[member="gmail"].com -p password -o xmltv.xml
pir8radio 1312 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Why ask us as opposed to asking your guide data? the guide data is all correct... emby isn't grabbing the images for the shows. as you can see it says "Doctor Who S6:E13 - The ......."

It doesn't reproduce any Errors luke...I can send you all the logs you want, but maybe it would be better to reverse engineer PerfectPlayer since it works flawlessly. The issue "we" fixed were that 2 channels had the same name and emby only showed the one that was UHD. I edited the .m3u and changed the name of the channel. The issue is with the playback of UHD channels and the transcoding. Edited October 6, 2018 by EODCrafter

CBers 7450 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 I really, really want Emby to work with IPTV (I bought a Lifetime Subscription to Emby) but I'm afraid it's just not quite ready yet. TL;DR, but there are quite a few of us on these forums that use IPTV feeds in Emby every day without any issues. I myself have been using it for 18 months now.

pir8radio 1312 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Check your guide data to make sure it has those images. My IPTV plays just fine... to add to the conversation. Luke Maybe i misunderstand how it works, but the guide supplies "names" and Times, dates, episodes, seasons, text, then emby supplies the bells and whistles like it does for my movies.. No? If not why not? lol If i go download the very same "Doctor Who S6:E13" and plop it in a folder emby finds the images, why would it not auto pull them for the other items?
EODCrafter 181 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 I mean logs + sample stream that i can personally test with. Next week when my brother is not using the extra account I will once again give you access. I suspect you probably have a much better computer than I do so I'm not sure if this will actually solve anything. I'm not rich. One of these days I'll buy a super computer and that will probably solve most of my issues.

NO, it's pulling that info from the Guide of a scheduled show, not a actual show on your hard drive. I really don't want Metadata being pulled for 5000 channels that are changing every 1/2 hour or so.lol! Edited October 5, 2018 by EODCrafter

We do not query internet providers for a couple reasons, first being, it would all happen by name and this would lead to some incorrect matches. And second, performance. It takes several http requests to fetch internet metadata. That's OK for a personal movie library, not OK for an EPG with potentially 100k entries. 1
arrbee99 1815 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 (edited) Hope I'm not being rude (not trying to speak on someone else's behalf) but pretty sure Luke said either they don't want TVDB being hammered with thousands of requests to fill up peoples TV guides with art, or it often returns the wrong art and people complain about it. I use NextPVR and it comes up with posters and stuff, but it is wrong quite often. Edit - beat me to it, obviously. Edited October 5, 2018 by arrbee99 2
Luke 42077 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Hammering the metadata providers is another issue, yes. We want to be good citizens and stay away from doing that.

Couldn't traffic be cut down significantly if you could just get, say, one poster/thumb for Doctor Who, which is stored and reused, instead of getting different art/info for each episode. 1

I'll have to tear into the xmltv file and see how they are doing it.. The images have to come from somewhere right? someone is getting hammered. Thanks for the education guys. So this question has been answered, I just misunderstood the process. So does mine.....on Perfect Player.....Like I said, I bought a lifetime Subscription to Emby, this is not some disgruntled personal attack.... I know, i think everyone knows your not attacking... I think what people are saying is that IPTV works for the majority, so it's not an "IPTV" issue in general, i think it could be your provider, maybe they have a little higher latency, and the perfect player buffers more or deals with missing chunks better than emby. Emby could probably fix it to help you at the cost of slower start times for the rest of the community that don't have any iptv issues.. And I can assure you people will bitch if tv takes more than x seconds to start lol. I think luke is just looking for some kind of pattern or issue why YOUR iptv is acting up, to help fix it for you. It's not that no one believes you, it just they are not going to redesign the player, after perfect player, because a hand full of people are having issues with very specific iptv provider(s) or setups. I mean that's my opinion only... Im a user not an emby team member. Edited October 5, 2018 by pir8radio 1
Luke 42077 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 The images have to come from somewhere right? Yes, usually a guide data provider such as schedules direct/gracenote, or rovi. Someone built to handle the load as opposed to free services like fanart and moviedb. 1

Luke 42077 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 That's where schedules direct data comes from.

I do Buffer Perfect player...the setting is 3...where is this in Emby? and also PP uses Hardware Decoding which I think improves playback a lot for lower end machines....
