ebr 16183 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 The point you are missing is that the moderators here have largely ignored a simple request. What are the updates that need to be installed via Windows update to assure the software operates? I don't see that as being unreasonable. If it is then say that. Why don't one of the moderators say "We don't know" or "We aren't going to publish that"? Instead I see alot of deflection and silence on the topic. Hi. Sorry you feel this was ignored. I thought it had been covered in previous posts. It is generally a best practice to apply all available Windows updates so that is what we suggest and what we have tested with. This is especially important if you are on Windows 7 as that needs to be SP1 and fully patched. Thanks.
d00zah 149 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 (edited) I will ask you again to read through my previous posts on this topic. Every version I tried previous to the 3.2.60.0 update works as a service in Windows 7. The latest update breaks something when running as a service but works fine as a normal process. I see your latest post as yet another deflection of the questions I am asking. What are your dependencies in Windows 7? As of ~v3.2.36 (Introduction of '.NET Core'), the native Windows service is no longer supported. MANY forum threads to that effect. WIKI details an alternative... have installed on > a dozen machines & it works fine. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Running%20Emby%20Server%20as%20a%20Windows%20Service Recommend 'sc delete [service name]' from elevated cmd prompt to delete old service. Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) @@CBers I get the feeling you aren't reading my posts or thread. If you had you would have answers to your questions. Fwiw I have been a software engineer for about 20 years. If a user of my software provides me a methodology to reproduce the issue that is being experienced then I don't need logs. I have described exactly how to reproduce the issue of Emby Server not running as a service in Windows 7 32/64 bit. You are now the 3rd Emby team member to do nothing about it. Do the following and see if it works and figure out what is wrong. I will not debug/troubleshoot your release for you when you are armed with all of the information you need. Install Windows 7 32 and or 64 bit to a machine or VM Follow the guide for installing Emby as a service leveraging NSSM Publish results What is hard about that? Also why is it so hard for you to provide to the community the dependencies the Emby software has on Windows update packages? This should be trivial for your developers to do. Do they build the software without knowing these dependencies? If I sound frustrated it is because I am! I have been asking these questions for a week now and no answers! Furthermore these are simple tests to perform but you and the Emby team aren't performing them. Pushing this back on me or on any user is ridiculous. It really makes me feel that you do not do any regression testing of your code. Window 7 SP1 up to date is the requirement as mentioned in other topics and added to the Download page. Hard to say which of the 185+ important updates. So is there a reason you are not updating Windows 7? Edited January 6, 2018 by Happy2Play
RanmaCanada 495 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 @@ryandavidg thank you for that. I will check my system when I get home this evening for it. This is the type of information I expect from the moderators/developers, however. We as customers shouldn't be doing this for them. Actually you as a customer should have provided your logs when asked. Plain and simple. Every computer has different hardware and different software installed. If the developers ask for your logs, you give them, as they will peer through them and see what is broken. You acting all high and mighty, has done nothing to help your cause or the cause of others in your situation. This is akin to bringing your car into the shop and saying there's a problem with your car, and then taking it home, and expecting the mechanic to be able to fix your car while it's in your driveway because the problem is easy to reproduce and having your car in their care is obviously not necessary. Please, next time logs are requested, post them. It makes life a lot easier and your issues would have been solved quite some time ago. 1
