dafunke 22 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I'm a Plex user and I'm trying out MediaBrowser and the biggest issue I've had so far is the scraping. It seems to be overly sensitive and fairly frustrating to fix. Normally this wouldn't be so big of a deal, but it's affecting roughly 5-10% of my media. When it takes 3 or 4 different attempts to clear out bad data and find the "winning combination" of data to enter in, it gets frustrating. I know this is going to sound like a lot of b*tching, but I write software for a living and I know that more details = more gooder when it comes to bugs/specs so I wanted to really spell it out. Trust me, there are a lot of things I am liking about MediaBrowser compared to Plex, this is just the 1 thing I've run into that has been a real pain and maybe a bit of guidance would help make the experience a lot better. So here goes... When I say "overly sensitive" i mean if I mistyped the movie title by 1 letter, the title has an extra word like "extended", they have underscores instead of spaces, or spelling out "Twelve Monkeys" vs "12 Monkeys", it often isn't found (but sometimes it is). And fixing the problems could be smoother IMO. I've found very inconsistent results when refreshing data. I'll delete any mismatched items, change the title name to be exactly correct, and then refresh. Sometimes i have to refresh all data and sometimes i have to just refresh missing data to get it to work. And even then, sometimes I have to go out to TMDB or IMDB to find their exact code ... and sometimes I don't. I even found that giving the code from those sites will prevent the correct match from working but worked when I only had the title entered. No single approach seems to work consistently. Plex makes the process simple with a "best guess" type of feature where you pick from multiple options it thinks may be correct (and it finds the correct match on the first try more consistently). And for my latest issue I attached a screenshot. I have no way of entering in the IMDB or TMDB codes because for some reason the dropdown is empty. I tried restarting the server, but that didn't fix it. From what I see, there's no way to fix this one.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) I don't run into a lot of naming issues, having been working with media browser naming conventions for years, but all you should have to do is drop the correct tmdb or imdb id in the form, save the change, and then refresh. Works for me once in a blue moon when it's needed. Edited March 10, 2014 by Deathsquirrel
ebr 16174 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Death squirrel is correct - if you can find the ID then it should be that simple. But, it will be getting even simpler with the next release. 1

Look at the structure of that item and be sure it conforms to the accepted standards.

But, it will be getting even simpler with the next release. Nice! I like it! I have found though that even when I entered in the ids it didn't always work if the title was a bit off (like if there were spaces when there shouldn't be or underscores). I can't remember any real examples but if I run into it again, I'll post it. But thanks for the replies ... I was trying to fix the metadata using just the title without having to go out and find the imdb code but if that's the best way to go about it, i'll just do that.
ebr 16174 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 The procedure now would be: Clear any IDs that are there Enter the proper tmdb/imdb id Save Refresh The Save is important. The procedure with the next release will be: Hit "Identify" button Adjust the name on the search form (or enter any other information like release year) Hit Search Pick the right one
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 When I say "overly sensitive" i mean if I mistyped the movie title by 1 letter, the title has an extra word like "extended", they have underscores instead of spaces, or spelling out "Twelve Monkeys" vs "12 Monkeys", it often isn't found (but sometimes it is). This can be annoying. However when I was on Plex, only about 40% of my movies would identify. Plex still insists on calling "Druids" by its European name of "The Gaul". Even though I manually updated all the metadata in the Plex interface. XBMC was only slightly better. It wasn't until I used Media Center Master to go through and rename every video and directory for me that I started getting better results. I've been following the format of /movies/movie name (year)/move name (year).mkv since and not had much problem. Some things like underscores can probably be fixed though. These should be replaced with spaces. Though I have a few movies where the colon ( is replaced with an underscore so need to collapse double spaces as well. Always hated how Plex wanted to name 12 Monkeys to Twelve Monkeys. Was finally able to force it to the number title though. Haven't had that problem in Media Browser Server. Anyway, I do hope identifying movies does work better in the future. All about the right names for the directories and media files though.
dafunke 22 Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 Thanks guys. Going out and getting the IMDB id is giving much more consistent results compared to trying to use the movie name. As an FYI, the only other issue I'm seeing now is that the movie art is not getting refreshed when the movie was previously mis-identified. So any cover art, etc that was downloaded for the wrong movie is still there after refreshing. But it will download the correct images for items (like the disc or banner) that was not downloaded by the mis-identified movie. But that's easy enough to fix.
WWWestern 94 Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 @@Luke, may be need fix logic? When was changed ID of the item, then also replace images too.
