leroybrown1982 0 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 I have been browsing the wiki, the forum, and using the guide to setup emby server on my latest Manjaro Linux KDE distro and I have only one problem that makes me scratch my head. Why does the setup wizard not ask me where my media files are before it starts scanning my library? The library scan fails every time apparently. It just spins that color changing circle. Im all over the advanced setup that is provided with the Web-GUi, and even there I don't see any place to input the filepath to my media files. No wonder it can't find my media files, it doesn't know where they are. Go figure.

ebr 16185 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Hi. We're very sorry you are having troubles but also very interested in why this was difficult to find. The startup wizard asks you to add a media library and there is also the library section of the dashboard explained in the link above.
Abobader 3464 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Hi. We're very sorry you are having troubles but also very interested in why this was difficult to find. The startup wizard asks you to add a media library and there is also the library section of the dashboard explained in the link above. Good day, Yes true, the setup first will prompt the library setup, but ... New users will not simply go to the wiki and master it, no, I think a walk out guide need it, sure they are quick start, but still. My best
ebr 16185 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 We're always open to suggestions but I think we already have that. Here is the page the wizard presents: You click "Add Media Library" to add a media library and, if you need help, that help button takes you right to the Wiki article linked above. What should we add to this screen to make it more obvious?
Abobader 3464 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Good day, The point Ebr, you assume it easy when some one first want to try emby, it easy alright in our point, but some will not fully see it this way, walk out guide some times help. Microsoft still do it This just a point of view. My best
Guest asrequested Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 A description of what 'add media library' is, should help. That page has no information or description. A little explanation would be good,
ebr 16185 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Yes, perhaps this text (from the wiki article) below "Setup your media libraries" would help: A media library is a grouping of one or more physical folders on your file system. To get started, click the button to add a media library. For more help click the "Help" button above.
Luke 42080 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Nonetheless assuming most will never read the wiki we need to learn what problems he encountered in doing this with the setup wizard. Also he says he's been browsing the advanced section, but was he not able to locate the library section of the emby server dashboard?
WilhelmStroker 102 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 You could also make the next button greyed out until a media library has been added.
ebr 16185 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 You could also make the next button greyed out until a media library has been added. We don't want to force you to set it up then. It is possible that you are setting up the server before you have any media. 1
Abobader 3464 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Good day, Well: Nonetheless assuming most will never read the wiki we need to learn what problems he encountered in doing this with the setup wizard. The answer is here: Also he says he's been browsing the advanced section, but was he not able to locate the library section of the emby server dashboard? I am not saying most will not read it, some will The wiki is clear and full in info for whom need it, but my point of view, wiki not always clear for everyone. The point here, did the OP see it clear? My best

I prefer skipping library setup until I can change all the Library-Metadata option. 1
leroybrown1982 0 Posted December 29, 2017 Author Posted December 29, 2017 Wow. I don't know what happened but I came back to it hours later and the add media library button suddenly appeared. My apologies for any earlier confusion. Now I am searching the wiki for how to get it to access /home/ringo/movies because apparently all it can see is /home and nothing else.
leroybrown1982 0 Posted December 29, 2017 Author Posted December 29, 2017 by the way thanks this is pretty good stuff here.
