Emby app over cellular

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to get the Emby App for IOS to connect to my server over Verizon LTE network.  I am immediately getting unable to connect message.  I can access the webpage in safari and access over wifi network, but not cellular.  Any tips to get this to work?

Thanks

Hi there, welcome. I would suggest checking out our Connection Troubleshooter. Please try the steps listed there and let us know exactly which ones succeed and which ones do not. thanks !

Here is what I've tested.  Marking the things that don't work

EmbyServer:

http://localhost:8096

http://mydns.net:8096

https://localhost:8920

https://mydns.net:8920

Local Wifi web brower:

http://internalip:8096

http://mydns.net:8096

https://internalip:8920

https://mydns.net:8920

Local Wifi IOS app:

sign into Emby Connect

internalip:8096

http://mydns.net:8096

internalip:8920 FAIL - trys for a bit then "Connection Failure"

https://mydns.net:8920

Verizon LTE network Safari:

http://myexternalip:8096 (redirectsto https://myexternalip:8920)

http://mydns.net:8096 (redirects to https://mydns.net:8920)

https://myexternalip:8920

https://mydns.net:8920

Verizon LTE network IOS app:

sign into Emby Connect FAIL - Login Failure

myexternalip:8096 FAIL - instant message "Connection Failure"

http://mydns.net:8096 FAIL - instant message "Connection Failure"

myexternalip:8920 FAIL - instant message "Connection Failure"

https://mydns.net:8920 FAIL - instant message "Connection Failure"

Verizon LTE network configured as personal hotspot on one phone and using Emby IOS app on another phone connected to the hotspot:

sign into Emby Connect

myexternalip:8096 FAIL - expected

http://mydns.net:8096 FAIL - expected

myexternalip:8920 FAIL - should work?

https://mydns.net:8920

So to summarize using the IOS app directly connected to the Verizon LTE network does not work.  Strangely if I use the IOS app while connected via wifi to the Verizon LTE network configured as a personal hotspot on another phone it works.  This seems like a bug or limitation in the IOS app to me.

Software details:

Emby Server for Windows 3.2.60.0 running on Windows 10 Fall Creators update configured with SSL signed by LetsEncrypt

Emby app for IOS 1.4.6

IOS version 11.2.1 (15C153) running on iPhone 6

Personal hotspot was running off of IOS 10.3.1 on iPhone 5s

I put way too much work into this to only realize that Cellular Data was turned off for the Emby App.....

False alarm nothing to see here.  Thanks for responding
