cousew 0 Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 My server transcodes everything and I can't figure out why. I use mcebuddy to convert everything to MP4(H.264/AAC). I have an android phone, roku, fire tv using emby through kodi and chromecast. I checked to make sure that all of them can directly play mp4. I have attached one of the log files from a show that was transcoded. Trying to figure out if I need to change a setting in MCEBuddy or in Emby. Any help is appreciated.
cousew 0 Posted December 23, 2017 Author Posted December 23, 2017 Sorry about that. Chose the file but didn't click "Attach This File". Now attached. ffmpeg-transcode-e5f3c7d0-d439-4e30-a567-bc5947947752.txt
Solution Luke 42079 Posted December 23, 2017 Solution Posted December 23, 2017 The requested video bitrate is very low. I would check the in-app bitrate setting and either set that to Auto, or configure a higher value. Let us know if this helps. Thanks. 1

Is the requested/maximum bitrate: "......&VideoBitrate=996000 ......" ?
Luke 42079 Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 The total max requested is yes that value + the audiobitrate requested.
cousew 0 Posted December 24, 2017 Author Posted December 24, 2017 Thanks that worked. I didn't realize that by me making it so low that it would cause it to transcode. Changed it to auto and it direct played. Is there a benefit to changing that value? Should it be set to the highest bitrate on my highest bitrate file? Is there a way in emby to see the bitrate of the media files without going in one by one? I appreciate all your help. That was bugging me for a while but I finally had the time off to investigate more and post.
Luke 42079 Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 No, it should be set based on the network connection you're using to connect to your emby server.
