somy 25 Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) Hi, I added a library with content type "Home Photos & Videos". The library contains only one folder which has several sub-folders, and each subfolder have around 5000 mkv files. After the library was added Emby started to scan the files, and it took around 2 hours (without chapter extraction), so all good so far. However for some video files Emby just marks the title "Video" and refuses to use the file name, and this happens to some videos randomly. For example I have a folder that contains only a few files with title "Video" while another folder contains almost everything called "Video". My question is: why Emby was not happy using the file name as the title for some of the videos and in which cases Emby will use the default title "Video"? Thanks all in advance! somy 25 Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 Is there a way to force Emby to rescan the files without names??
Luke 42083 Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Hi there, can you please discuss some examples? Thanks.
somy 25 Posted December 23, 2017 Author Posted December 23, 2017 (edited) Hi Luke, thank you for your reply! Please see the screenshot attached. I tried to remove the library and add it back but got the same result. Before thumbnail generation all videos had the correct names, but after library scan completed many of them changed the title to “Video”. Edited December 23, 2017 by somy

Solution ebr 16187 Posted December 23, 2017 Solution Posted December 23, 2017 Hi. Is it possible these items have embedded name tags? 1
somy 25 Posted December 23, 2017 Author Posted December 23, 2017 (edited) Hi. Is it possible these items have embedded name tags? Hi, thanks for your reply! How can I check if the files contain embedded name tag? When I set up the library I didn't choose "Prefer embedded titles over filenames" so shouldn't it just use file names? I tried to move the files to another location, remove the lib and add it back. After a few hours scanning I got exactly the same result, so it is somehow deterministic (not random issue due to memory or Cpu usage etc.) I attach the complete server log file for diagnostics. Thank you all and merry Christmas! Edited December 24, 2017 by somy
somy 25 Posted December 24, 2017 Author Posted December 24, 2017 Hi. Is it possible these items have embedded name tags? Just figured out, it was because of nfo descriptors exist for some of the files, and there is no name in the descriptor. Maybe better to fall back to file name if no name can be found?
somy 25 Posted December 26, 2017 Author Posted December 26, 2017 Nfo descriptor? I meant there were some .nfo files for some of the videos, and I think Emby tried to find name from those files first. Unfortunately there were no proper names in .nfo files, which caused Emby to call them "Video". I suggest in such case Emby should fall back to file name. The problem is solved by removing all the .nfo files in those folders.
Luke 42083 Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Unfortunately there were no proper names in .nfo files, which caused Emby to call them "Video". This isn't true. the name must have come either from inside the nfo, or somewhere else.
somy 25 Posted December 27, 2017 Author Posted December 27, 2017 This isn't true. the name must have come either from inside the nfo, or somewhere else. Can't attach nfo file as I have removed them all, but pretty sure there is no name in them. Anyways the issue is solved by removing all nfo files. Thanks all for your help!!
Luke 42083 Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Well then the name must have been inside the nfo. thanks.
