About gamebrowser [Basics].

Hello,

 

I have been trying to add games to my emby sever using gamebrowser plug-in, but without luck.

 

This is what i have done so far :

 

1- Created a folder called "Games" in the root of my Hard Drive.

2- Crated a folder inside "Games" folder called "Windows".

3- Put Spec Ops the line game folder inside "Windows" folder which looks like this below pic :

 

 

* Obviously the .exe file is inside the bin folder.

Did you follow any setup for gamebrowser? Do a search, you will find quite a few info.

 

You should only need to have your folder in your library to D:\Games.

 

 

you need to add game.gbwin file just make a new file. nothing needs to be in it. It allows GB detect.

For windows games you don't need to actually have the game installed where the emby library is. You could install the game somewhere else, and in the games/windows/spec ops the line folder, just make a text file and name it something like specops.gbwin, that way when emby scans your windows games you won't end up with the direct folders and such in your library.

 

When you setup the emby classic section you would choose where the game exe file is. So you can really install the game where ever.

 

The point in the root folder with gbwin files is, well think of it as a shortcut you setup for emby.

 

It's been quite a while since I've set this up. Let me know if you run into any more issues.

as i understood from both of you, i created an empty document with the name & extension of : "game.gbwin" inside my platform folder.

 

Result : Now emby recognized the game.gbwin file, and doesn't show other folders (Which is a good thing), but it's  not launching the game.

 

Logically speaking, that game.gbwin file is empty, so how will emby know which file / exe file to load ?

I believe windows and dos games currently only work with emby classic, not emby theater. Emby classic had a Gamebrowser configurator to point to the exe path but as I said I haven't used emby classic in years.

i am not using theater , i am using ember server itself, and the plugin is appearing but there is no place to point any .exe files

Yeah the setup for windows games isn't on the server but on the client app, it's emby for WMC, used to be emby classic
