set up multiple user accounts

By this I don't mean setting up different users within MB server.

Here is what I want to do.

On my windows 7 machine I have a user account for myself and one for my wife. I'd like to set it up so that when I'm away, my wife can log into her account and have mb server start up automatically just as it does when I log into my account. Right now I have a shortcut to mb server in the startup folder for "all users". This is not working though for her account because mb server is in the app data folder under my account which she does not have access to when she's logged in.

I ended up installing mb server again while logged into her account (which I'm sure is not optimal) the problem with that is, the server starts, but then throws out an error saying that it can not launch the web browser. I have not been able to get over that hump yet, anyone have any ideas on that?

I imagine that just running the server as a service would solve the problem, but if I do that don't I lose the browser based server config/setup and the browsing of libraries?

can someone give me some pointers on getting the server to run on multiple user accounts?

1. Log into your account.
2. Go to the Dashboard
3. Uncheck Advanced -> Run server at startup
4. Click Save at the bottom of the page.
5. Close the server from the system tray icon.
6. Press Winkey+R
7. Type in services.msc in the box and click OK
8. Scroll down to Media Browser in the Services Pane.
9. Double-Click it to open it. 
10. Click on the log on tab and enter your username and password.
11. Click on General and change the Startup Type to Automatic.
12. Click OK

 

Logout. Log in as your wife's account. The service should start in the background.

Yes, I know how to set it up as a service, but I believe that I lose the dashboard by doing so.

You don't lose the dashboard. You would simply go to http://localhost:8096/mediabrowser/dashboard/index.html

 

You do lose automatic updates. However as far as I am aware it is the only way to allow multiple windows accounts to share the same server. You can install the server on her account as well but then you have to maintain two copies of the server and that can complicate things.

I'll give that a try Wayne, if I can still use the dashboard I'll be happy!
