FordGT90Concept 97 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I've seen it happen on a recorded NCIS episode via Xbox One S and music playing on a SHIELD TV. Verified the devices are off but Server shows that content continues to be streamed on the settings main page. In the attached logs, sometime between 6-8, I forced the SHIELD to stop. logs.zip
Luke 42079 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 what do you mean forced the shield to stop? can you please indicate at exactly what time you started playing, and what time you stopped playing? thanks !
FordGT90Concept 97 Posted December 14, 2017 Author Posted December 14, 2017 (edited) In the Server Dashboard, hit the stop button. Here's an example where it was continuing to play despite it being off: 2017-12-13 18:40:29.673 Info HttpServer: HTTP POST http://192.168.0.128:8096/emby/Sessions/Playing/Progress. Luke 42079 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Does the activitly logged in the dashboard say that playback was stopped?
andyblac644 69 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 (edited) I reported the same issue here https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/53616-device-status-issues/ includes a screen video capture, Shield was not playing anything at the time just sitting in the Main Shield Emby app home screen. FordGT90Concept 97 Posted December 14, 2017 Author Posted December 14, 2017 Does the activitly logged in the dashboard say that playback was stopped? It was actively playing (clock was counting up on the current song). When I clicked stop, yeah, it stopped. I reported the same issue here https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/53616-device-status-issues/ includes a screen video capture, Shield was not playing anything at the time just sitting in the Main Shield Emby app home screen. On that note, I'm not 100% sure Xbox One S is involved. It may have just been an active recording for NCIS. In fact, I'm fairly confident it is. The issue may be isolated to Android app failing to tell Server it is going offline. At least that's where I'd focus right now. Judging by andyblac644's feedback, it could even be isolated to SHIELDs.
mastrmind11 722 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I noticed this on Tuesday on my Shield as well. Completed an entire episode of TWD and it showed up on the server dashboard as still playing for at least another day. Just checked now and it is no longer there. The stop button on the dashboard had no effect.
ebr 16184 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 In the Server Dashboard, hit the stop button. If that worked, then that means the app was active. If it was a "nonexistent" device, then that command would not have worked. So, even though you thought the Shield was "off" it really wasn't. In fact, I'm not sure there is a way to actually turn the Shield off (other than the shut down command in the device settings). Hitting the top of it will just turn the screen off.
FordGT90Concept 97 Posted December 14, 2017 Author Posted December 14, 2017 The green light was off on it. It was definitely asleep.
ebr 16184 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 The green light was off on it. It was definitely asleep. That doesn't mean the app cannot run and, the fact that your remote command worked confirms that it was. The app is designed to allow music to play in the background so just putting the device to sleep (or, really, turning off the screen) probably will not cause that music to stop playing.
andyblac644 69 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 (edited) @@ebr, how can the shield play more than one file at a time see my video. I have it the server say 8 thing are still show as active how is this possible ?, and stop button does nothing for me when they are showing as active. Edited December 14, 2017 by andyblac644
Luke 42079 Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 It was actively playing (clock was counting up on the current song). When I clicked stop, yeah, it stopped. Did the activity log in the server dashboard have an entry saying playback stopped?
FordGT90Concept 97 Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 Doesn't go back far enough. The last 50 events end on the 14th. This happened on the 13th.

Ok, can you please try to reproduce this again and then answer that question? The outcome of that will determine where the research for this heads towards. Thanks !
FordGT90Concept 97 Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 The SHIELD's light is off and this is what I see in server: After I click the "Stop" button: Turned the SHIELD back on and start another song. Backed out Emby and made it go to sleep. Turned it back on, the music was still playing. I click on Emby to get back into the app, saw the main screen for a second, then Emby stopped the music and kicked me back to the SHIELD menu. So I think the problem is in the Emby Android TV app. On sleep, it should stop everything.
Luke 42079 Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 So it is actually still playing, or just reporting that it's playing?
FordGT90Concept 97 Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 It is playing if I don't stop it. When I resumed the SHEILD, it was playing music on the SHIELD main menu. start music -> hear music -> sleep -> resume -> hear music -> start Emby -> see Emby menu -> still hear music -> Emby closes/backs out -> music stops -> start Emby -> login screen
Luke 42079 Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Emby closes/backs out Are you suggesting the app crashed?
FordGT90Concept 97 Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 (edited) No, it just forced user sign-out which, in turn, stopped the music that was playing. If it did crash, it didn't give any indication that it did crash. Edited December 16, 2017 by FordGT90Concept
ebr 16184 Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 It didn't crash. It auto-logged out. Music is designed to play in the background while in other apps, etc. So we do not shut it down unless you specifically tell us to stop it. The problem with shutting it down on sleep is we actually had a request from a user to not do that because they start music and then turn off the display - using it as background music with no video of any kind. I'll have to see if we can see the situation of you actually forcing the unit to "sleep" (which, really, is just turning off the screen output in some cases). Remember, this OS is designed for phones and people would not want their music to stop playing when the phone "went to sleep". As I said, I'll see if there is something we can do but, right now, the best practice would be to stop the music before turning everything off .
