Feature Request: Extras for TV Shows

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Can you change the behavior of extras for TV shows to work like movies? There is a big problem with how it works right now, and that is conflicting with TVDB specials.

For example, I am trying to rip the extras for Season1 of a show currently airing season 3. The extras in Season 1 are not in TVDB as specials, so according to the linked instructions I should pick an unused specials number for the extras. BUT the show is currently airing, and new specials are constantly being created, so eventually whatever number I pick as an "unused special" will be used in Season 3, or Season 4, or some other season years from now. When that happens, my special will conflict with the ones in TVDB. Another problem with this approach is the extras cannot be season-specific. I would like to watch the deleted scenes for Season 2 while watching that season and not have to dig through all of the extras for the entire series to find it.

I think the best solution would be to just make it work like it does for movies, make an extras folder that can be placed under the season folder, or under the main TV show folder.

/TV

/Show

/Season 1

/Season 1/extras

or

/TV

/Show

/extras

It would also be preferred if the filename was used for the name of the extra, like it is for movies, instead of relying on the MKV metadata.

Thanks!

/Show

/extras

What you would have to do is put them under Season 0, and then lock them to prevent them from being associated with tvdb metadata.

I don't really like the season 0 concept as it makes it harder to differentiate what is a special (an actual episode outside of a season... Chrismas special etc) and a bonus feature (making of and behind the scenes stuff).

Lumping them all into a season 0 folder feels wrong and downgrades the experience a bit when, as syplex said, you have to plow through tons of stuff to get to some season 7 blooper reel...

Emby is great but improvements like this would make it awesome.

The system allows you to indicate where the special will show in the course of the regular episodes so that you won't have to hunt through anything...

I did try that but didn't like having extras mixed with the episodes. Having them separate would be better IMHO.

When entering a season you could have the list of episodes and under that, extras. As it is the movie section.

Now, my ultimate fantasy would be to have the ability to have extras and trailers at all levels. Enter a series... Extras and trailers. Enter a season... Extras and trailers. Enter an episode... Extras and trailers.

But i guess I'm pushing my luck here...[emoji16]

If you don't like that then don't do that.  As EBR said, you can choose.

If you're worried about your extras overlapping with the ones the internet metadata sites include you have two excellent options:

  1. Contribute to said metadata sites.  I'm sure they'd be delighted to have your contributions.
  2. Use bigger numbers.  Name your season 1 unknown extras ShowTitle S00E100x ExtraName.mkv.  It's pretty damn unlikely you'll overlap when you're first extra for season 1 is episode 1001.

Thanks for the tip. I already came up wih an ok workaround for all this but i just wish things were just a bit more flexible.

Thats a pain in the ass compared to just throwing them in a folder.  When I rip movies and extras I don't have to go into Emby at all, I name the files and throw them on the NAS and it just works.

Whats the reason to not have this as an option? The code is already there for movies, it seems like a no-brainer.

It is a possibility for the future. I am only point out existing methods that will work today.

Did this ever change?

I currently employ a couple of different methods for different shows that I have accumulated over the years, and as Emby has been capable of different things.

I am considering standardizing them- but need to know what's possible at this juncture.

TIA everyone.
