mrhollywood360 0 Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Not sure if this is a server issue or an app issue. But when I try to play my high quality movies on the app (4K HEVC, usually about 50 GB) it always tries to transcode them, making playback lag and play at a noticeably lower quality even when choosing the highest quality in the app (which is only 100 mbs). When I use the Kodi add-on it plays without hitch. Is there a way to make the app not transcode these files? I searched through the settings and couldn't find a solution.
ebr 16174 Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Hi. We'd need to look at a specific example. Please provide the information requested in How to Report a Problem Thanks.
mrhollywood360 0 Posted December 13, 2017 Author Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) Here's the transcoding logs. Playback was a little more fluid this time but what I'd really like is it to not transcode it at all. log.txt Edited December 13, 2017 by mrhollywood360
ebr 16174 Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 On what device are you attempting to play this? Doesn't look like it supports 10-bit HEVC. The stuttering is probably due to the content bitrate (41Mb/s) which will also be too high for, say, a Fire TV.
mrhollywood360 0 Posted December 13, 2017 Author Posted December 13, 2017 FireTV Gen2. The same file plays just fine using kodi, so the device is capable.
Solution ebr 16174 Posted December 13, 2017 Solution Posted December 13, 2017 FireTV Gen2. The same file plays just fine using kodi, so the device is capable. The Fire TV does not support hevc 10-bit. Kodi has its own software decoding built into it that we don't have access to. 1
