tdiguy 99 Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 I recently switch over fully to using emby for home entertainment ( live tv and movies ). On the computer i didnt notice any issues with picture size with emby theater. However now on emby for the amazon fire tv i notice for live tv playback ( it is a hd channel ) that 1 its transcoding which i believe you addressed in 50.5 ( i am on 50.3 until i see 50.5 for ubuntu) and 2 the picture is several inches smaller than the tv on all sides, using the zoom / stretch adjustments move the picture around but dont seem to actually change the size. Is there anything i can do about this?
tdiguy 99 Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 So, no options, no idea's at all on how to get a bigger picture?
tdiguy 99 Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) Ok I see now, it mostly involves how the programming is transmitted. Cable can be kinda confusing on what they call hd. Several channels i have there are 3 versions of them, sd, quasi hd and then a real hd version. Now that i have found some of the true hd channels the picture is normal on those channels. Looks like i will be spending some time going through on the hdhr to filter channels out. The really nice part, finding these true hd channels also has eliminated the problem with transcoding. Just found out what hdmi cec does for me, no need for a second remote or a universal remove. The tv remote works nearly as well as the amazon remote for controlling emby. Love it when i find a feature i didnt expect. Edited December 12, 2017 by tdiguy

ebr 16169 Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Yeah, when SD content is sent out on an HD channel, many times they don't up-scale it. They just put it in the middle of the frame. You'll sometimes see old or local commercials show like this too. As for the zoom in the app, that appears to also be quirky on some content but I'll take a look and see what can be done.
ebr 16169 Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I just tested out the zoom feature and it appears to be working properly in my tests. I played one of these channels showing content "black-boxed" and all zoom modes appeared to work properly so I'm not sure what is going on there for you.
tdiguy 99 Posted December 13, 2017 Author Posted December 13, 2017 I am mostly going through and filtering channels now to prevent this issue, I think it was because it was hd and sd content same reason it was transcoding. Now at worst it's direct stream for the most part. Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk

ebr 16169 Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 I have no zoom option available in settings on first gen fire tv? I have it and use it on my shield am I missing something? The Fire is probably playing your content in VLC which doesn't support the zoom (in our app). The beta version is no longer using VLC so, if you'd like to test it, please follow the instructions here. Thanks.
