How to rename, move directories...

Hello guys!

I’m facing a dilemma. To grow my library I have to regularly manage my hard drives m, change where some movies are stored, add a new hard drive and then move entire directories... etc

The problem here is that, stop me if I’m wrong, but the UID in Emby is the full path of the movie, so if I move it Emby will delete the previous entry and then create a new one. Normally it wouldn’t be a problem, since you have this entry in a playlist or in your favorites, so you lose it...

So how can I do? Can you do it possible to make a uid corresponding to tmdb so if I move the movie it will be recognized as the same movie after?

For the purposes of user-data like watched status and favorites, as long as the IDs are correct before and after, it will not be a problem.

For things like playlists, it may, however if the path changes.

Another great example of why drive pooling is so awesome :).

Hey @@ebr, would like to thank you very much! I finally opted for StableBit DrivePool software and just bought a licence. Very good advice, I will have only one unique drive and everything will be auto-balanced on all my disks... Thx again!

I can testify DrivePool was a blessing for my ever growing collection. It used to take me days to reorganize Tb's of media across multiple drives, then waiting for Emby (and then Kodi) to process it all. Now it takes about the same time as a reboot. :)

@jlr19: for me it took 1 hour to move my 30tb and 1 hours to rebalance. The tip here is to force que pool to create directories on each disks and then to move directly in pool directories instead of going through the pool drive itself...

After doing my little pool and moving everything there, I confirm you loose everything: favorites, playlist... I had to modify the XML files. It’s because Emby saves all absolute links to the movies.

Playlists will need to be re-done but you will not lose favorites or resume or watched data for items that are globally identifiable (tmdb, tvdb) and are properly identified both before and after the move.  For things like home videos where all we have to go on is paths, then this data will be lost.
