Sowl 1 Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Hi I am using latest emby server and kodi 17.3. Both are in different machines connected with home wifi network. Whenever i play a video in kodi it will play as "direct play".Although i have not given any shared path in emby server library. But now when i access same media using google chrome it is transcodding every video and it is very slow. So i just wanted to know how emby is direct playing the same video in kodi but not in chrome . Is there any specific logic behind that?? And without providing share path to emby server It can direct play video??
Luke 42080 Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Web browsers do not support the same amount of media formats as Kodi so that is probably why. What kind of video is this?
Sowl 1 Posted December 7, 2017 Author Posted December 7, 2017 @@Luke Is emby server capable of direct playing without giving optional share path of the video in media library??
Sowl 1 Posted December 7, 2017 Author Posted December 7, 2017 Ok so I don't need to share my media files for direct playing. Thanks Luke for clarification. Sorry forgot to share you the media detail. PFA
Luke 42080 Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 That's not going to direct play in the web app. There is currently no browser that supports mpeg4 or the avi container.
Luke 42080 Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Why not check out our wiki on transcoding: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Transcoding Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
Sowl 1 Posted December 7, 2017 Author Posted December 7, 2017 Thanks Luke. I do have lots of .avi files.so that explains why most of the files are transcoding. Basically I don't have any issue with transcoding as long as video is playing smoothly. I am using very old laptop with lower configuration for emby server. Maybe because of that I am unable to transcode it probably. Video freezes most of the time. Current laptop Ram is 2 GB and It is using inbuilt intel graphic card. I am ready to spend few bucks to get good viewing experience. Wanted to know do I need to increase my laptop RAM or add graphic card to get better viewing experience.? I am newbie for this. Any suggestion here would be really helpful.
