Resume Points not synced in KODI clients

Hello,

I have registered today because I have an open bill ;-) with Emby and so far nobody could help me or point me into the right direction. I am not sure if this is the right sub-forum to post it here, but I thought I try it here.

A colleague of mine teasered me with the benefits of having a central database for your media. So, the decision was made that I also need to have this!

As I love KODI, I did not want to go the way with PLEX. And here we are.
My goal is to have central database for my media and as soon as I add a new movie to one folder that it will be added to the database and then be available in all clients.
Additionally I  would like to have the “Netflix feeling”. I stop watching a movie in living room and I can continue in the bedroom at the same position as stopped before.
Plus the information which episodes of a series I already watched on all clients.

I have an unraid server (running unpaid 6.3.5) and as docker I installed Emby Server (version 3.2.40.0) and Emby for Kodi Sync Queue Plugin 2.0.0.0

Within unpaid I have a folder "movies adults”, “movies kids”, “series adults” and “series kids”.

I have made right now two libraries.

- Movies (all)
- Series (all)

The folders are added as \\IP-ADDRESS\Folder

I created one user named “Adults” having access to these libraries.

As clients I have a Mac (High Sierra) running Kodi Krypton 17.6 and a FireTV also running Krypton 17.6.

I tried Kodi with Emby Add-on first (2.3.58). However there I have the issue that I start a film and when I stop it, then the icon that the movie is still “watched in progress” and the progress bar show up for like 2 seconds and then are overwritten with the checkmark showing that the movie is watched completely. This is the same behaviour on both, Mac and FireTV. And I have no idea what is wrong.

Always used the Native playback, no transcoding.

However I do not have this with EmbyCon Add-on (version 1.3.48). The resume points are stored and I can resume the movies perfectly. However the resume points are not synced back to the server as this is per client-only and is not available on another client.

I also tried (for experimental reason) a Raspberry Pi 2 (with LibreElec 17.6) and EmbyCon Add-on.

I added the latest two server logs from Emby Server.

I have already invested many hours and I am getting frustrated for not getting it solved.

For the KODI log - if needed, shall I  add a complete one or only when doing something specific?

Best solution would be, I did something wrong.

EmbyCon should sync back to the server the current position and resume point as you are watching the item. When you are watching the item in Kodi what does the emby server dashboard say? Does it show your currently playing item and the progress?

Dashboard shows that it is connected but not what it is doing.

Is that the correct one? If not, please let me know what I shall do and where.

well you have issues. (with EmbyCon)

 - turn on Kodi Debug logging

 - restart kodi

 - play something using EmbyCon (This is from the EmbyCon Addon Menu)

 - check it is not showing up in the above server dashboard

 - stop playback after 30 or so seconds

 - stop kodi

 - send me the Kodi log

I followed your steps and no, the movie was not showing up in the dashboard - just like before.

Here is the link to the log file: https://paste.ubuntu.com/26107812/

Are you sure you used the EmbyCon menu to start playback of that item?

DONT use the normal Kodi movies/tvshow or widgets.

- Open to the EmbyCon addon

- Use the main EmbyCon menu to navigate to a movie or Tv Show

- Play the movie or Tv Show from the EmbyCon menu

I can not see anywhere in the above log that show the EmbyCon addon actually played anything.

Yes, you are right, I went directly to Movies Section in Kodi. I thought that with Emby / Embycon  there is no local database anymore and the local database gets replaced by the central one?

I now went to the Embycon add-on and there to the folder movies. I started a movie and it was showing up in the dashboard as expected. When I stopped the movie it was marked as "Watched" and without resume point.

Attached please find the log file. The Kodi upload add-on was not working, so I added it to this post.

I really appreciate your support!

Okay, thanks for the explanation. I got that and it makes sense for me.

Concerning where to find the information about runtime of the movie, I am a little bit lost.

I went to the web interface of the library and opened the the movie from the web interface. I see the information, underneath the actors and at the end there is media information. However there is only mentioned container: mkv and the smb path.

Or where should I take a look?

Okay, it was not showing up there. Rescan did not change anything.

What I noticed in KODI. While the runtime information is available under Movies (which is the KODI database), this information is not available in embycon´s movie folder.

Sounds like you have an idea how to fix this?

Okay, where does Emby get the information of runtime from?

Because every movie has an .nfo file in the folder. And there is a field runtime. However this information is not taken by Emby obviously.

We extract media info using ffprobe.

Thanks for the help so far. I will continue in the server area then.
