Fire tv transcoding audio and video, killing cpu

Recommended Posts

Okay I’m new with Emby, so trying to figure settings out. Server running on intel nuc i3, when playing video in this case avatar on my fire tv (not new model), it’s killing cpu, it appears that two ffmegs are running I assume one audio one video. If I play this same video with plex it’s only transcoding audio cpu running around 14%, emby is 90% or more. What do I have wrong.

Well assume maybe this exceed bitrate might have something to do with it, how would I solve that?

You can try setting the max bitrate in the app to 40Mb but that is well outside the spec for the Fire TV so it may not play well.

In short, you are trying to play an extremely high-bitrate movie on a device not really designed for such high bitrates so the system is (properly) attempting to convert it to something the device can play.

Well part of my question is plex has no problem playing same movie on same device, with thecpu is around 15% but with emby 90%and better so why such a difference?

Posted

Because the files are being played in different ways. Did you try Ebr's suggestion? Let us know, thanks !

can you provide a server log from that attempt? thanks.

Did you use the plex option to create a lower bitrate copy of the movie? I believe they call it "optimize".

You can do the same thing with Emby by using our folder sync feature.

I did not optimize it with plex, I'm using the exact same file that is on my nas with both systems.

Can we look at a new server log after having changed the in-app setting? thanks.

Not at home currently, will send it later this evening I hope.

Attached new log

Transcode log?  What did you play and when?

Thanks.

Thanks for that. Can you check in the app and see if you have the audio downmix setting enabled? thanks.

The heavy load here is due to the PGS (graphic) subtitles you have selected and the fact that  your system is either configured for or only reports it supports stereo audio.

So, the answer to Luke's question above is important.

Not there currently to check this, but I would say its probably not enabled.

What is the Fire TV hooked to (TV/AVR, etc.) and how (what kind of audio connection)?

Posted

Is hooked to LG TV, that has a soundbar and sub connected.

Exactly how are those connections made?  What type of cables and in what ports on the TV?

I'm guessing that your soundbar does not support DTS and, depending on exactly how it is connected, it may not support pass thru of any advanced audio with the way you have things connected.  Either that is the case, or you have the app audio setting set to "downmix".

Have you tried selecting the Dolby Digital audio track instead of the DTS one?

This is not a fancy soundbar this is just a secondary TV, I will try selected Dolby Digital and see what happens, Thanks for all the advice, maybe I will just take my son's advice that said if it just works with plex why are you fooling with emby.
