Jasoon 9 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 When I go into the video settings for MBT I have the option of audio bitstreaming via None, HDMI or SPDIF. I currently have it set to HDMI is there anything to be gained from using SPDIF? My av amp can handle both but I've heard that the pc needs to do more work to separate the audio for the SPDIF then the amp needs to process it, but surely the pc would need to do something with the audio to bitstream it via HDMI.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) HDMI and S/PDIF are two different types of connections. If your HTPC is connected to your receiver via HDMI, that is what you choose. If it is connected via S/PDIF, then you should choose that. If you don't have a receiver and just outputting to speakers plugged into the HTPC or the television speakers, then you should choose None. HDMI is probably the best choice these days. steelman1991 19 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 If you want to bitstream HD Audio, then you have no choice but HDMI. Stick with it.
