Problems Playing BR Rips

I'm not sure what relevant facts to include about this issue.

 

I have several BR rips on my HDD in a MB watched folder. The web and Roku clients have no issues playing these.

However, when trying to play them using Classic in WMC, there is no audio (through HDMI) When played through my computer speakers through the analogue out, I get very fast clicking noise.

Additionally, at least one BR (Riddick) starts playing from a point about 5 mins into the film.

I notice with Classic here is no way to select different audio tracks, and no way to select ANY subtitle.

 

I am running Windows 7 SP1, connected to my flat screen with HDMI (windows mixer shows no activity on it's VU meters when playing these titles to MBC). MB Classic ver. 3.0.129.02-12.2

 

I can always install MB Theater, but I like the convenience of going through WMC since I use that for my TV watching. Also, I'm not sure how well Theater responds to a WMC remote.

WMC does not support BD playback directly.  When you say "BluRay rips" what do you actually mean?  In what format are they? If they are playing at all they probably aren't actually BD folders anymore.

 

I would start by installing LAV as this is certainly a codec issue of some sort.

 

If they are actually still BD folder structures, you will need to install an external player that supports them.

I see. The movies in question are BR rips in their BR folder structure.

 

 I assume I would have to find an external player that is compatible with either MB Classic or WMC? I already have Power DVD9 installed, and that plays BR's. I don't know if I can configure MB Classic to use it though.

But does your reply answer the question of why Riddick starts playing at about 5 mins into the movie?

 

And does MB Classic have no way to change audio tracks?

if you know that lav is installed you can pass index.bdmv to the player as the video path and lav will handle it. that's what mbt is doing, although it has the ability to assume lav will be present.

Yeah, I'm not sure how to know if LAV is installed but I'll see if there is a reliable method for determining that.

 

leebo - MBC will attempt to play the largest file it finds but this will not be reliable as you found.  Basically, I suggest you rip to a different container or configure an external player.  You can use PDVD but only as a generic player so you won't get resume tracking.  MPC-HC is probably the best supported external but it isn't going to be very good at playing BD folders either.

Is LAV a player? I've seen it mentioned several times but have not investigated yet.

Lav is a set of filters based on ffmpeg (call it a codec pack of sorts)

Since our current method is completely unreliable, I'm just going to use the index.bdmv for BD playback.  It will just require LAV (or something else that can play it).

No they are different

You should un-install any codec packs you have and install LAV instead.  Much simpler and plays pretty much everything.

I don't install codec "packs".I need ffmpeg for a couple of video conversion programs I use.

Okay, then you can just install LAV and you should be good.  The next version of MBC should then play your BDs fine (with no menus of course).

No, the internal WMC player does not provide that capability.  You would have to use an external one.

External player configuration is done through the MBC Configurator.  A shortcut to it was installed in your start menu.

Thanks. I found the configurator. It never occurred to me to look there because I thought the only settings were in the gear icon in MBC. Also I will check out the link above.
