Lonald 10 Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Emby is no longer recognizing subtitles of BD backups. Not sure when this happened, but was trying to watch some of my foreign movies today and I noticed that the cc icon is no longer present and subtitles would not run. This is a change from a month or two ago with the same movies. I viewed the movies using the Leawo player and the subtitles show when activated. I saved the movies in their native format using CloneBD and did not convert to MKV files (very time consuming). Will you need logfiles, or is this a known issue? I saw a thread from October and didn't get any insight. Thanks!
Luke 42080 Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Hi there, please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !
Lonald 10 Posted November 24, 2017 Author Posted November 24, 2017 (edited) Here is the server logfile from a BD movie. logfile BD subtitle missing.txt Edited November 24, 2017 by Lonald
Lonald 10 Posted November 24, 2017 Author Posted November 24, 2017 My Emby Server is 3.2.36.0 version and I note that the latest release is 3.2.40.0 and has a subtitle issue addressed in it. For some reason the automatic update did not load the new version and I don't see an option on the dashboard. How do I update and is this the solution? Thanks!!!
Luke 42080 Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 Just install from the website, although I don't think it will affect this. Thanks.
Lonald 10 Posted November 25, 2017 Author Posted November 25, 2017 Still running 3.2.36.0, but a magical thing happened - the cc box is now back and the subtitles work! Thanks!
Lonald 10 Posted November 25, 2017 Author Posted November 25, 2017 Stargate is playing in correct sequence on the Windows player, but not when transcoded for iPad or Xbox. BD file is original, not an mkv. Logs attached. Thanks! Similar behavior noted for Valerian. Can re-run and send logs, if needed! Stargate iPad Incorrect Play.txt Stargate Windows Player Correct.txt
ebr 16185 Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 I'm afraid that is simply a possible outcome with raw folder rips. The tools we use to transcode them don't support them so we have to try to play the best we can - which won't always work.
Luke 42080 Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 @@Lonald you're seeing the messages about folder rip transcoding being expiremental, right?
Lonald 10 Posted November 25, 2017 Author Posted November 25, 2017 Yep. When I find these, I'll convert to .mkv files. Any word on having the option of linking to an external player like leawo? Early versions of Emby allowed this, but I've not been able to find a way to make this work... Thanks!
Luke 42080 Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 In what Emby app? Emby Theater for Windows Desktop supports external players.
Guest asrequested Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 you're seeing the messages about folder rip transcoding being experimental, right? Just a quick note on that. I just tested playing a DVD folder rip in theater desktop. No message popup, playback doesn't start (eternal spinning circle) and the app gets stuck on the screen with the movie backdrop. You have to force close. I don't want to hijack the thread, just thought it was pertinent
Luke 42080 Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 We should just stop supporting them at all because it's starting to get out of hand.

I agree, but I think you'd need a blanket disclaimer to let everyone know they need to convert to file based media. You will get many complaints, of course. There're a lot of people still using folder rips, thinking it's the best quality to have their media. Here's a thought, maybe offer something in the server that could convert folder rips to file based media? For bluray, it would be quite easy. It's basically a remux, as it's already one file. DVD however, is a bit more complicated.
ebr 16185 Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 Here's a thought, maybe offer something in the server that could convert folder rips to file based media? If it were possible for us to accurately do that, then the issue here wouldn't exist...
Guest asrequested Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 (edited) If it were possible for us to accurately do that, then the issue here wouldn't exist... Can't ffmpeg do this? I was just testing a DVD folder rip in the mpv standalone. All it needs to do is access the VIDEO_TS.IFO, and the movie plays, correctly. And with Bluray, it's the MovieObject.bdmv. Guest asrequested Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 I should add that playing the same DVD in the store app, works correctly. So the error I reported may just be with the theater desktop config. And now I'm getting off thread topic. Apologies.
Guest asrequested Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 The store app will be transcoding. Oh ha! Of course! That hadn't occurred to me
