Marc_G 95 Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 Hi folks, Playing around with stuff I've intermittently used the "save metadata within media folders" and at other times not done this, leading to lots of (now undesired) metadata within the appdata\roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\metadata\ folder. How do I wipe all that and force Emby to redownload all the metadata and save it all in the media folders, and at the same time bring down lots of backdrops (I just set it to 6 in the settings, having forgotten to do that a week ago when I did a reinstall)? I've made sure each library is configured for saving within the media folder. I'm just looking for the proper way, rather than hacking something and causing a problem. Thanks!
Guest asrequested Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 I would think you just enable the setting to save to media folder, and run a library scan to replace all metadata. You could also select refresh library, before the scan.

Guest asrequested Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 I'd run the scan, first. Then check to see if it's still there. I believe deleting it OK. I've never tried it. If it were me, I'd like to see if the server cleaned up after itself.
Blob 7 Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Hi, "I would think...""Then check to see..." Can someone please inform of the real behavior? I have since the start used the database for metadata because i did not want to "pollute" my media folders. Moving to larger/other disks has always been a pain with the metadata rebuild - I'm giving up I would like to flip the switch to save in media folder. What happens when flipping on to media folders and what do I need to do to save time? What happens when flipping back to database and what to do there so ensure all is back in database? Thanks
Luke 42085 Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 When you change the setting it only applies to new metadata that is saved going forward. It will not perform any kind of back and forth migration. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !

Delete the media folder, or does that cause problems instead of forcing a rebuild?
Luke 42085 Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 You would have to force a metadata refresh of existing content. the regular library scan won't do anything as it is only looking for changes. 1

Guest asrequested Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 That was what I was saying by choosing replace all metadata.
