Why do you hate people that want to manually install using the mono package?

I use to take 5 seconds to download a new build for Mono, now after 10 minutes looking I still can not locate it.  I do not want to have it installed someplace not of my choosing or automatically updated.   Simply put I only update every month or now because it is nearly impossible to locate a standalone installer for mono I can unzip and overwrite with.

Why do you hate manual installations now?  Where is the link for mono?, and please ensure it is present on the download page from no on, as I do not have time to play hide and go seek every time you release a new build.

We actually have moved away from mono and onto .NET Core, at least for x64 and will be rolling that out for ARM soon. Everything is self contained into a single download.

Regardless, it's not that simple as taking the output and running it. There are native libraries that are required, as well as other things that need to be laid down. We would have to document that process for you, and then:

  • deal with troubleshooting when that process changes and you don't get the memo, whereas now we can change the internal build process as much as we like without having to worry about user disruption
  • deal with troubleshooting when you use different versions of dependencies that we haven't tested

We've kind of been down this road already before and it just eats up a lot of our time having to support this, that's why our .NET Core packages are self-contained and designed to just work.
