2 bugs I finally want to ask about: blank video, only audio

Recommended Posts

I love everything about this app aside from 2 very annoying bugs:

1) I watch a lot of TV shows on shuffle as of recently I have an issue that when it finishes a show and starts the next (random) episode it will only have audio but no video. However if I manually hit start before it ends that previous episode it works fine.

2) this has been happening since the beginning on more than one device, if I get a call or reply to a notification while watching a show, when it returns I have no video, only audio. If I want to continue that episode I have to stop and resume where it left off.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, thanks for the report. We're looking into both of these.

Same problem here.

Configuration:
Emby (Lifetime Premier) 3.2.50.0
Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Samsung S7
Android App (Fresh Install) 2.9.75 on Local Network

Problem is as stated by OP.  If binge watching, the "Next Episode" pop-up appears and the count down begins.  Once the timer hits 0, the next episode audio begins, but there is no video.  If you select the "Start Now" option, next episode plays as desired.  This appears to be limited to playing on Android devices only.  Also, this happens on both internal and external network connections.  The function works as designed on other devices (Samsung TV, Browser, Roku).

I have tried this on several media file types and stream options (transcoding, direct stream, direct play) with the same results.

I have attached the server log file, android log file and the media info for the files I tested.

We're looking into it, thanks.

Not sure if this will help tracking down the problem.
Rolled back the app to 2.9.62 and all works as desired.
Server left alone and used same video files.

Thanks, we'll look at that. If you want to try this that would be helpful too:

Thanks.

Tried the libmpv version.
Running on a Samsung S7.

Installed with no problem.

Started with no problem.

Started same test video and it started almost immediately.  But then things went downhill quickly.  Video was playing very slow.  Audio was off by almost a minute by the end of a 21 minute video.
The next up popped up and displayed for the last 30 seconds.  Because of the delay in the video, it remained on the screen for over a minute after reaching 0.  Once the video completed, the next file was started.  Only audio.
Going back to 2.9.62 for the moment.

I have noticed past several times I've watch a TV series that with autoplay next episode I get audio but no video. This is on 4G/lge I have not tried on wifi.

Also we resuming from pausing and coming back after the screen timeout I get the same behavior of audio but no video.

Same problem reported here:

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/53118-2-bugs-i-finally-want-to-ask-about-blank-video-only-audio/

Same result over wifi and hard wired network.

Thanks @@Scott D. Didn't realize this was already reported. Have you also noticed the play and pause button acting weird?

What I mean is open a episode start playing then hit pause hit the play and it stays the play icon but resumes the episode or movie.

I have rolled back a few versions to where the next episode (audio only) problem does not occur.  I have not noticed those issues with that version.

Just tried the libmpv install again.  I was unable to get a video to start.  Made it down to the episode and once play was pressed, the spinning circle started and never stopped.

Uninstalled and installed the most recent 2.9.76 and sam problem as above.  Plays fine, auto start next episode has audio but no video.

Uninstalled and installed 2.9.62 and all is well.

Can you please provide a log from the app? Thanks.

No problems during the installation.  App started with no issue.  Appeared to be quick and responsive.
Attempted playback of same video file as above.  No video from the start.  Audio plays fine.
Jumped to end of file and still no video, but audio is fine.

Can you try using our native hauppauge support? Thanks.

Same hardware configuration above with the exception of Direct Hauppauge support.

Started S01E01 video and experienced no video, audio played fine.
Exit playing video and restart the same episode.  All played fine.
After 30 seconds of playing, jumped to last 30 seconds of episode.
Next episode started with audio and video.  No issues
Played S01E02 for 30 seconds and exit.

Tried to play live TV.  Played fine.

Is there any plan to incorporate pulling guide information from the over the air info (similar to function of NextPVR), or will the Direct support of Hauppauge require the use of an external guide source?
