Creating custom thumbnails

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help please?

All my motorsport is created in a home movie library with screen grabbing disabled to avoid the spoiler thumbnails.

Although this works well it looks ugly due to no thumbnail.  I can create a custom thumbnail by using the filename with -thumb on the end and as you can see looks nice but to do this manually for each file is not practical so I am looking for either an automatic/less time consuming process to get the result in the picture below for the Australian WRC.  I am happy to have the same thumbnail for every event in the same sport so for example wrc thumbnail for every rally and the same F1 thumbnail for every F1 Race etc.  If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it!

Many Thanks

It screen grabbing is disabled then I think that might be your only option.

Wouldn't have thought a single screen grab from a whole MKV would be a spoiler, but still, not sure if this http://www.heinovision.com/useful/2011/05/making-multiple-copies-of-one-file/   might help (never used it myself though).

Unfortunately the screen grab would more than half the time ruin a result by grabbing a screen where somebody crashes or a full screen grab of the starting positions before you see the qualifying or current race positions before you have seen the start etc..

Thanks for the link but that just copies a single file where as I would need to create a thumb for different files e.g. WRC France.jpg WRC Australia.jpg WRC Great Britain.jpg etc etc

Good point(s). The OP did say 'happy to have the same thumbnail for every event in the same sport', so I thought run it once for Rallying, once for F1, etc.

Or maybe something like this  http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/extract-images-video-files-imagegrab/  You could get it to grab an image every minute from a video you don't particularly care about. Or I think you could, again never used it, not even sure if it requires parting with actual money.

Thanks for the input!

I am finding similar solutions,  but the problem is that emby needs the jpg to have the same context as the video filename so for example

WRC 2017 R13 Australia needs a jpg called WRC 2017 R13 Australia-thumb.jpg for emby to display it and there lies the issue of finding some automation :-S

Well there's bulk re-namers about, as you probably know, though maybe that wouldn't help much. Are you sure you need the thumb to have that full name and thumb.jpg wouldn't work. Or if that worked would you need to re-organize all your folders to have one video per video.

Sorry, not helping much. Guess you need a been there done that kind of person...
