Theodore 136 Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I don't go into the library settings very often because once a library is setup there really is no need unless something changes or breaks, but I happened to notice in the latest version (3.2.36.0) THIS SETTING in libraries. If I were to enable the auto refresh, what type of refresh would it be? "Replace all metadata" or Search for missing metadata"? And speaking of the refresh, can you please change the default when selecting refresh from a library item to be "Search for missing"? The current default of Replace is asking for trouble for fellow cinephiles when we try to make sure everything is as complete and correct as possible only to do a mis-click and have everything overwritten - especially considering many of the search locations are not complete (particularly when talking about cast lists). Thank you!
Theodore 136 Posted November 21, 2017 Author Posted November 21, 2017 It would be replace all. Shouldn't the default action be to find missing? Replacing all metadata on each refresh is like getting a new car instead of an oil change.
Luke 42080 Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 I think that is debatable. I realize you're coming from the perspective of someone who edits metadata and doesn't want their edits lost. The counter argument is that most are probably not doing that.

Even without custom editing metadata, having the default be to search for missing would reduce bandwidth utilization.
chef 3810 Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 I believe the idea was to refresh the library views and give users some new images to see. It's an interesting way to keep the library looking new. I'm a fan. Especially because the EMBY providers are constantly updating their product with new and relivant images.
dennyreiter 1 Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Would it be possible to have it be configurable? I apparently got bit by this, noticing that all my edits in one of my libraries were completely gone today. I think that is debatable. ebr 16185 Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Would it be possible to have it be configurable? It already is configurable. You simply change the option in the drop down right there on the dialog that appears.
dcrdev 255 Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 I have a question regarding this... If I have a show that won't scrape based on file/folder name, but will scrape if I manually add the imdb / tvdb id(s). Will having the automatic metadata refresh option ticked remove those id(s), subsequently removing all metadata?
