mpiet 2 Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Using the external player function of Emby for Android TV there is no default sony video player (com.sony.dtv.osat.video) in shortlist. Is there a possibilty to add it manually (in form of editing an xml file or someting like that)? Using EsFileExplorer and opening a video file the sony video player is available in the shortlist.
ebr 16174 Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Hi. The Android system determines which players are available. The app simply asks it for any capable of playing the content you are trying to play.
mpiet 2 Posted November 25, 2017 Author Posted November 25, 2017 Can you please tell me, how the playback is passed to the external player? Is the path to the file passed or is it a stream?
ebr 16174 Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 That depends on the content and whether or not you checked the option in the app to send the direct file reference.
mpiet 2 Posted November 26, 2017 Author Posted November 26, 2017 I did not activate to pass the path, so the file should be streamed to the external player, right? The internal player is able to playback UPnP streaming. Here a pic of ES File Explorer player: And here trying to open the same file via Emby app:
ebr 16174 Posted November 26, 2017 Posted November 26, 2017 The shot with the other player looks like it is accessing the file directly. If we stream it it will be through the server and not be an mkv anymore which may be why the player you expect isn't showing as an option. It probably only deals with actual files. Why don't we back up and have you answer the question of why you are trying to use this particular player in the first place...?
mpiet 2 Posted November 27, 2017 Author Posted November 27, 2017 Why don't we back up and have you answer the question of why you are trying to use this particular player in the first place...? Because ALL 3rd party video player for android tv are not able to have always a smooth playback. I tried everything. Only the sony internal video player can play all my movies without any stutterings.

mpiet 2 Posted November 30, 2017 Author Posted November 30, 2017 I tried now using the refresh rate switching, but it do not help. I read, that is not possible to change the refresh rate for 3rd party apps. So this is my only reason to use the sony internal player for all movie playback. The alternative was to buy a not android tv and to use the nvidia shield for video playback. But i did not want to use a additional device.
