Marc_G 95 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Folks, I just did a complete uninstall and reinstall of EMby Server on my Windows 10 box, to exorcise some occasional recording fail demons. I followed the github instructions to install Emby Server as a service (using the NSSM tool, that I don't remember from going through the process a year ago). Now, when I try to connect from any device (such as ET on this same windows box, or a local Android client), two instances of the server appear and it asks me to pick one. They are both called HTSERVER which is my server name. What do I do to untangle this? The double server persists after a restart. Emby is NOT configured to run at startup in the dashboard settings. Latest log attatched. Please tell me what to do. I believe it may relate to windows remembering the auto start service from before I uninstalled it, then when I made a new one using the new NSSM process, I bet I got two entries for windows tp start. In Services (task manager), Emby Server shows up twice, with one stopped and the other running. server-63646614304.txt
Luke 42083 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Hi, I don't think you have two servers running. But you did a complete reinstall so now your Emby apps see that as a completely new server. What you can do is delete the old entry from the server selection screen in the emby app that you're using.
Marc_G 95 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 Check these out. Is this normal? I don't recall seeing the double entries before. Please advise
Luke 42083 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 No that's not normal. Looks like maybe you have embyserver.exe in two different places? try to find the full path to those.
Marc_G 95 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 (edited) They are the same file, in c:\users\<username>\appdata\roaming\Emby-Server\System\ I'm pretty sure this relates to having an entry for windows to auto start the service, then me following the newer instructions using the NSSM tool. So, two entries to run the service. The old one always listed the process as Emby. I followed the instructions and called new one via NSSM Emby Server. So, in services, one shows up as Emby, and one as Emby Server. How do I undo the old windows service settings that I had prior to reinstallation? Luke 42083 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Well the easiest thing to do for right now would be to just set all the services to manual start and just start from square one with the tray icon.
Marc_G 95 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 Well the easiest thing to do for right now would be to just set all the services to manual start and just start from square one with the tray icon. When I try to edit one of them in the Services applet, it gives me an error that the name is already in use, so I can't set to manual. How do I totally remove one of these entries>
Marc_G 95 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 This reinstallation has been a pain. The uninstall via the control panel and "remove all traces" failed, repeatedly. Eventually I just deleted all traces I could find and then reinstalled. IT seemed to work, as no settings seemed to persist. But this "as a service" thing is giving me fits.
Marc_G 95 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 Think I got it. Yanked the old one out by the roots from the registry. STand by.
Marc_G 95 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 OK. Seems to be good. Here's the process if anybody ever needs it: Run Regedit or Regedt32. Go to the registry entry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services" Look for the service that you want delete and delete it. You can look at the keys to know what files the service was using and delete them as well (if necessary). Now I just need to fix several movies that are repeatedly getting misidentified. For example, "The Mark" (2012) is being identified as "The Mark of Zorro" despite me repeatedly using metadata manager to correct it. Arrggg! 1
Guest asrequested Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 lol...Today I reinstalled my HTPC and my server. Fresh OS on each. I'm just starting to add my libraries. I don't know how far you've got, but when adding your existing libraries, disable all of your library settings, like download artwork etc. Don't re-enable them until you run a few library scans and everything shows up. Because of my new hardware and win 10 issues, I've reinstalled the server quite a few times, now. And if I don't don't do this, the library scan always gets stuck.
Luke 42083 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Just use the default settings and you will be fine.
Guest asrequested Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Just use the default settings and you will be fine. That hasn't been my experience.
Marc_G 95 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 (edited) My reinstallation didn't encounter problems with library scans. I had set some libraries to TV, some to movies, some to unset. Poked at a few other settings. No scan issues. Edited November 18, 2017 by Marc_G
CBers 7451 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Using "sc delete emby" would have deleted the Windows Service without having to hack the registry. 2
