RogerO 5 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 (edited) I have many artists who will probably never appear on internet music databases, hence I have been manually downloading artist images etc. For whatever reason, I started by attaching images for various Artists in my Music Video-type libraries. But when I checked the corresponding Artist pages in my Music-type libraries, the artist images weren't there. When I upload images to artists in the Music library, the images get saved to the relevant .../metadata/artists/<artist> folders. But images saved in a Music Video library don't save there. Two questions: where are artist images saved for artists in Music Video libraries? why isn't artist metadata stored in the same location for artists in both Music and Music Video libraries? Surely that's the whole point of having a separate library type for music videos? Or, am I just doing something wrong? Edited November 18, 2017 by RogerO
RogerO 5 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 Oh.. I guess it's because you can't assume the "standard" folder structure of artist/album/song.ext (for Music libraries) or artist/DVD/movie.ext (for Music Video libraries). Then again... when you add a Primary image to an artist in the Music library, Emby knows to save it to the ../artist folder, so how does that work, and why can't it work the same way for a Music Video library?
Luke 42079 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 They are the same. Did you edit the metadata for music videos to indicate the artist?
RogerO 5 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 (edited) Hi Luke, thanks for replying.I haven't manually edited any metadata. This is why I asked if I was doing something wrong, which is always the most likely possibility :-)Do I do that in the Metadata Manager? And if my structure is Music Videos/Artist/DVD/movie.ext, where do I do that? At the level "DVD" I see a field called "Artists", but at the "Artist" level (which is where I would be adding the artist-specific images), I see no such field. Edited November 18, 2017 by RogerO
Luke 42079 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Yes, for music videos we don't grab the artist name from any file or folder, therefore you have to use the editing features to fill out the artist for each video. In this case that means the dvd.
RogerO 5 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 (edited) OK, thanks. Then without being able to try it just now, I guess that doesn't help. At the DVD level my image will be that of the DVD cover. The higher Artist level is where I was thinking that the artist images should sync between Music and Music Video libraries. So it seems I'll need to load artist images manually in both library types, with only the images from the Music library being saved to the .../artists folder on the server. Is that correct? Luke 42079 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 OK, thanks. Then without being able to try it just now, I guess that doesn't help. At the DVD level my image will be that of the DVD cover. No, just try it. It won't affect the dvd image.
RogerO 5 Posted November 19, 2017 Author Posted November 19, 2017 OK, in Metadata Manager I added the artist name to each DVD under each Artist. What should I expect to happen: 1. that the artist image I've added to the icon at the Artist level (above the DVD level) gets copied to the .../artist metadata folder? ...or... 2. that the image already saved for the artist in .../artist metadata folder gets copied to the Artist icon? ...or... 3. something else? As far as I can tell, after doing a metadata refresh on the relevant Artist and DVD icons (using Scan for new and updated files), nothing has changed after filling in the Artists tag at the DVD level in the Metadata Manager. But now I'm also uncertain as to which direction it should work in, i.e. option 1 or 2 above.
Luke 42079 Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 The only thing that really happens is that on the detail screen for that music video you will see the artist name and you can click that to get to the artist screen. the artist folder containing your music video is just that - a folder.
RogerO 5 Posted November 19, 2017 Author Posted November 19, 2017 OK, thaks Luke. So I'll just have to manually add photos for Artists in both Music and Music Videos libraries. Is there any functionality provided by specifying a library as Music Videos as opposed to just Movies or TV?
Luke 42079 Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 At the moment no. It is in our plans, but we haven't gotten to it yet. 1
RogerO 5 Posted November 19, 2017 Author Posted November 19, 2017 Sorry, one more thing: where are the images for these Music Video library icons stored? I'd just like to make sure they're backed up as well (harking back to my comment on that backup thread the other day).
Luke 42079 Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 What images exactly do you mean? the dynamic ones on the home screen?
RogerO 5 Posted November 19, 2017 Author Posted November 19, 2017 Sorry, I'm a bit thick. The images are being saved to the relevant Music Videos/Artist folder, following the rule to "Save artwork and metadata into media folders". I was thinking that this was "special" metadata like the .../People or .../artists metadata that is stored in the Emby folders.
Luke 42079 Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 No because as i said earlier, that folder is just a folder. We're not actually correlating it with any kind of artist, not in Emby at least.
