Mopar_Mudder 14 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I use meta browser to do my fetching. For some reason the aspect ratio is not coming through to Media Browser, it is in the meta data but not in media browser. Some older movie do work, looks like mainly new stuff that doesn't. Any ideas?
fatal 8 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 we actually pull it from the media directly Hey, Curious, how exactly are you pulling this from the media directly? Are you just dividing width by height or are you getting the actual aspect ratio that the movie was shot it by not including the black bars that are part of the movie? Take Care
Luke 42078 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 we get what ffprobe reports to us. actually correction - we also read the metadata value, it's just that clients are currently using the raw value reported from ffprobe. since we are not using it for any functional purpose, it is reasonable that we could advise our clients to use the metadata value if available, and then fallback to the raw value.
fatal 8 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 we get what ffprobe reports to us. I see, the Display Aspect Ratio I guess, which is not the AR that the movie is shot...DAR is the the AR that the video is intended to be played on (http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/term.cfm/display_aspect_ratio). Take Care
ebr 16173 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Pretty sure MBC displays the OAR from the metadata (assuming that is what is returned on the dto as opposed to the media stream) as the value from the actual video file is useless for this purpose (DVDs would all show 16x9).
ebr 16173 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Yeah, MBC shows the OAR from metadata and we did recommend to devs to display that if available. Original discussion.
Mopar_Mudder 14 Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Well I am not sure what I learned here Problem is that I am trying to play a intro based on aspect ratio with MB Intros and MB Theater. But I just looked at a movie we watched last night and Media Browser is showing an aspect ratio under original aspect ratio, and no intro played. The night before we watched Gravity and Media Browser shows no aspect ratio in the library GUI (screen image attached), but if I go into Meta Browser it is their, so I assume it is in the metadata. I don't know if it is related but I also saw a movie last night that doesn't list the length of the movie, I don't even see an entry for it in the Media Browser Library Edited March 6, 2014 by Mopar_Mudder
