Harblar 29 Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Does one exist? I just got an Oppo UDP-203. For the most part it’s working without a profile, but still wants to transcode on some files. The Oppo will easily handle all my various video types (all dvd, Blu-ray, hd-dvd mkv’s) it just needs some help. When I browse the Emby dona server from the Oppo it direct plays almost everything (though chokes on the hd-dvd files). When I try to play to via the iPad app it transcodes some of them. I don’t think it would take much, but I’m not sure how to start. Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Luke 42077 Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 No this is an area where we still need to create documentation. I would suggest using our iOS app. It will direct play all formats that are natively supported by Apple devices.
Harblar 29 Posted November 14, 2017 Author Posted November 14, 2017 Ok, That makes absolutely no sense to me. What I'm trying to do IS use the iOS app (on my iPad) to browse my library and then PLAY TO the Oppo UDP-203 Disc player connect to my Home theater. I don't need or care if it direct plays/transcodes on the iPad itself. I just want it to push the MKV to the Oppo and have the Oppo direct play the file (since it is capable of doing so with any and all of my MKV's). It already does it to some degree, but I think Tweaking a few settings in a custom device profile would make it work exactly the way I need it to.
Luke 42077 Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Ok i understand. what is the problem that you're having? We don't have an Oppo profile so i would guess that it's using the default profile. The default profile is geared to direct play just about everything.
Harblar 29 Posted November 14, 2017 Author Posted November 14, 2017 Honestly, I haven't a clue at this point. Last night when I hooked up the Oppo I was able to Select a movie on the ipad app (after setting the Oppo as the playback device) and it started playingback on the tv, though it was transcoding. The MKV in question was an H264 codec with, I believe, DTS -MA track. I tried a couple other DVD rips (Mpeg2Video) and they worked fine. I found a profile for an Oppo BDP-103 on the forums last night and I added it to the DLNA directory. I changed the identification names to identify it as the UDP-203. Thought I had it where I needed it, but now It won't play to the Oppo at all. it says it is but nothing happens on my TV. I removed the profile and now it won't work at all. Says it's either direct playing or transcoding, but the playback time keeps looping from 0 to 1 second with nothing on the TV. I turned on the DLNA logging, but I have no idea where to find that file.
Luke 42077 Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 dlna logging just goes into the regular server log. i would make sure all custom profiles are removed and get back to where you were when you first started, then we can go from there.
Harblar 29 Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 (edited) Ok, So here's where I'm at. I'm currently running 3.2.36.0 Stable. I removed the profiles for the Oppo and restarted the server. As soon as it restarts it sees the Oppo. Even though the oppo is powered down. (I'll try unplugging in a bit to see if that's causing and issue.) Here is the Log. It shows the Oppo using the Default setting. I tried to different MKV's. One attempted to direct play and the other transcoded. I then switched to the Xbox one and tried again. this time it direct streamed to the Xbox and started playing on my TV. (though it's not very smooth and keeps buffering every few seconds... not sure why.) I'm going to try a hard power off on the oppo and see what happens. If it changes anything, I'll post that log as well. server-63646340408.txt Edited November 15, 2017 by Harblar
Harblar 29 Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 Unplugging the Oppo, rebooting the server, and then restarting the Oppo got it back to playing on to the TV. From a little quick testing what I'm seeing is: 1.) MKV's with Dolby TrueHD play fine 2.) anything with DTS-MA won't pass audio 3.) If the total bitrate is too high they transcode and all audio works (though transcoded) . So far the Only ones i'm seeing like this are the files that contain an MVC video track. 4.) Any attempt to change audio or subtitle tracks via the emby remote control completelyt stops playback. 5.) HD-DVD rips (VC-1 1080i, 29.97fps) have lot's of audio and frame drops. (bluray VC-1 seems to be fine) 6.) Seems to have Trouble with MPEG2video as well and won't play any of my DVD rips Log included. (sorry... it got a little big!) server-63646341450.txt
