ok. Pilot error, I admit it.

For some reason, my library (dont know when)

went from showing

collections, classic tv, talkshows, tv

to not showing TV.

in the library area I tried (big misteak...)

deleted the TV library (M:\media\tv )

and recreated it as:

*  m:\media\tv\scifi

*  m:\media\tv\sitcom

*  m:\media\tv\drama

etc...

this didnt work...

dumb question.  (maybe not?!)  do I absolutely need to use sharenames as opposed to a volume name?
just saw ....

Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\dramas\\The- X Files\\Season 01","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\SITCOMS

does that mean its using net formation, rather then filenames, and could the problem be that simple?? augh...

tia

To me your content types look jacked as they should never be pointed directly to a series or season.

"ContentTypes":[{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\dramas\\The- X Files","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\MITCH-DESK\\talk\\Full Frontal","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\dramas\\madam secretary\\season02","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\dramas\\last-ship","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\dramas\\The- X Files\\Season 01","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\SITCOMS\\BigBangTheory","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\SITCOMS","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\Cop-Shows","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\dramas\\Man In The High Castle-The S01","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\sci-fi\\Man In The High Castle-The S01","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\sci-fi","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\sci-fi\\Mr. Robot\\season 01","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\sci-fi\\Sense8\\season01","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\dramas\\The- X Files\\season04","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\dramas\\The- X Files\\Season10","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\comedies","Value":"tvshows"},{"Name":"\\\\mitch-desk\\tv\\dramas","Value":"tvshows"}

What library folder/folders are you pointing to?  What is your desired display?

What library folder/folders are you pointing to?  What is your desired display?

Well.

The goal was that the TV sub-directory would have sci-fi, sitcoms, comedies, drama, and such

example:

M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\3rd Rock from The Sun
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Bosom Buddies
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\fracturedFairyTales
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Hill Street Blues
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\MacGyver
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Max Headroom
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Newhart
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Northern Exposure
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Penn&Teller - Bullshit
and below that are the current seasons...

M:\media\movies\Talk\Carson Daly-last call
M:\media\movies\Talk\conan
M:\media\movies\Talk\Full Frontal
M:\media\movies\Talk\james.corden
M:\media\movies\Talk\Jimmy Kimmel
M:\media\movies\Talk\last-week-tonight
M:\media\movies\Talk\Late Night with Seth Meyers

...

M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows\Blue Bloods
M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows\boardwalk-empire
M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows\criminal minds
M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows\homeland
M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows\quantico
M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows\Ransom
M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows\The Deuce
M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows\The Wire
M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows\the-missing
M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows\Blue Bloods\Season 08

so...it's media\movies\tv\cop-shows\showname\season...

any ideas on how to regenerate the info for the config file?

That is going to be a lot of work.  You may have to manually clear out the exiting content type in the system.xml.

Each "Library" should point to there parent folder not a series.

M:\media\movies\TV\Cop-Shows

M:\media\movies\Talk

M:\media\movies\ClassicTV

I will do some testing, if the library folders are not pointed right is will cause chaos in Emby.

So you are looking for category folder inside a TV content type entry point?

Wouldn't it be better if you split them into two separate folders and then put the sub folders in there?

Then you can assign the correct content type (movies or tv ) to each main folder?

Set up as movie content

M:\media\movies\...

Set up as TV content

M:\media\tv\...

M:\media\tv\ClassicTV\3rd Rock from The Sun

Sorry, not making myself clear enough. (in response to dansblackcat below...)

Yes,   Each of the Libraries point to the main category

(m:\...\ClassicTV)

(m:\...\tv\scifi

m:\...\tv\sitcom

The shows themselves are not pointed to in the library section.

and the series are under that (like...this...)

-----------------------------

M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\3rd Rock from The Sun
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Bosom Buddies
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\fracturedFairyTales
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Hill Street Blues
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\MacGyver
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Max Headroom
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Newhart
M:\media\movies\ClassicTV\Northern Exposure

and just looked, and interesting enough, in original config:
Movies were content unset (mixed)
talkshows were content TV

both of those categories were not changed, and still appear on the my media (main) screen.
TV was removed and reset, and was of content type TV.

TV was replaced with
TV-Sitcoms (m:\...\tv\sitcoms
TV-SCIFI (m:\...\tv\SCIFI
TV-cop-shows (m:\...\tv\Cop-Shows)

(etc)...
Those are the parts I can no longer access. (scifi, sitcoms, etc)
(and as a test, I changed the directory on TV-cop-shows (m:\...\tv\Cop-Shows)
from the drive-name to the UNC version (\\mitch-desk\Cop-Shows), hoping that
might have be cause of my problems, but nothing changed.

hope this is kind of clearer right now.
Yes, I did put a lot of thought into the original directory structure after reading the install instructions.
perhaps someone can help explain the log-file structure somewhere?  Yes, it does look messy in the original portion

thanks again.

Further question:

Can I just take away one file (perhaps config.xml) ? and Emby will rebuild everything based on the directory structure?

that would be ideal!

thanks in advance

Have you tried deleting everything (images, xml, nfo) out of the folders, other than the video files, and then let emby rescan and rebuild it?

Once I had a corrupt .jpg backdrop that caused havoc.  In WMC if I tried to browse my TV library it'd completely crash.
