1971camaroguy 32 Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 I have a emby premier account and have built a small server using server grade hardware. This is running windows 7 and i7 processor and 24gb server ram. It's housed in a closet with the other networking equipment. Network is wired to every device that does any kind of streaming, and I have a Gigabit switch. I have a small theater set up in my home with a denon 5.1 receiver, klipsch speakers, optma 1080p projector, and a 110" 16:9 screen. Right now I have a Roku 3 doing my media streaming. Smaller 1080p or less files stream fine, but larger blue-ray or HD rips have buffering issues. About mid-ways through the movie it will buffer for a few seconds and pick back up. These are mkv files and I figure it's transcoding. I'm not interested in posting logs and troubleshooting just yet. I need to nail down what device i want to use first. What I would like to know what would be the best medium to use for streaming emby and particularly large 8gb or bigger files? I have a roku 3, roku premiere, and a amazon fire TV right now I could use. But I have been looking into buying a Xbox 1 or even building a smaller PC with a ssd and running emby theater... Trying to figure out what would be the most optimized streaming medium for my set-up?
CBers 7451 Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 nvidia Shield. I agree. Or, the new Xbox One X, but not sure anyone on these forums has one or has tried it with ET.
jntaylor1701 6 Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 I use 2 Roku 3 and it has been rock solid. All of my videos are in H.264 with either AC3, 5.1 FLAC or 2.0 AAC audio.
Jdiesel 1431 Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 If you are located in the US there is a black Friday sale on the Shield TV https://www.bestbuy.com/site/nvidia-shield-tv-16-gb-streaming-media-player-with-controller-black/5709686.p?&ref=199&loc=TM20TXf59aU&acampID=1&siteID=TM20TXf59aU-ID8qw3vcPPV2_djAbo6Y6A

If you don't need that, you can get the remote-only version for $179.99 normally.

1971camaroguy 32 Posted November 8, 2017 Author Posted November 8, 2017 Interesting, I didn't even think of the Nvidia Shield...I'll do some research on that as I am not super familiar with it
dee1 3 Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 (edited) I do not transcode unless required, my best results were achieved using the FireTV (not the stick) though that works. https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Remote-Pendant-Streaming-Player/dp/B01N32NCPM I went Amazon as they are lead loss selling the hardware. I'm glad that I got the versions without the external Ethernet adapter. But it plays native Silicon dust without requiring transcoding (mp2), plays most formats with VLC support under Emby. https://www.amazon.com/Certified-Refurbished-Amazon-Fire-TV/dp/B00UH4D8G2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510245066&sr=8-1&keywords=refurbished+amazon+fire+tv Here is the version that does not require the ethernet which the new one does.
