Emby theater for Xbox one issues

Hello. I really enjoy emby but it is a struggle to deal with on the Xbox one. With the latest update, it constantly freezes. The only way I've been able to fix it was by quitting the app and reopening it. Upon reopening, it usually refuses to open or crashes. Finally, when it freezes, the server detects that it is still playing and continues to transcode or send the direct data, causing the timestamp to continuously advance until I can get back into the app. I've tried restarting my Xbox multiple times and I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app. Any suggestions?

example: every time I try and watch a show, no matter if it is direct play or transcoding, it will freeze within 2 minutes almost every time, leaving the app unresponsive and making it extremely difficult to watch anything

Are you sure the app is up to date? because from the looks of it that file should just direct play, instead it is direct streaming.

I think so. On my Xbox it says the emby app was updated 11/4/17, but I cannot find a version number anywhere

Hi,

 

I was quite excited when I read this post as I love Emby theater app on X1 but Ember is still my choice as the same movie (hevc codec) Ember play as a direct stream without a problem Emby struggle as it is trying to transcode. Logs attached. 

BTW VLC is, unfortunately, the best however it has the pathetic appearance on X1.

 

Anyway, keep doing a good job, server side is nice to have.

I dig a bit and found out that if the file is code h.264 or h.265 and have embedded subtitles it usually causes the problem for ET to play it without transcoding. So probably easiest solution is to strip subtitle and make it as separate srt file, works for me most times.

The problem as on my post above from 5th of November. Not playing some mkv files. But as I found mkv can contain stream with subtitles and quite often that embossed subtitle cause unnecessary transcoding. I looked on stats for nerds, and there is reason for transcoding subtitles format to supported, however there are English sub so I do not know what is wrong with format probably kind of utf stuff. Just guessing.

To be honest, I do not know, they are inside mkv files. I know that by ffmpeg I can find what kind of stream and format (I reckon) of the subtitles, but I do not now proper command. Anyway, the problem which I have encountered include all mkv files which has embedded subtitles via stream not burn in. However, Ember play that files just fine, so I do not know why Emby cannot and try to transcode.
