Hi.  Can you please reproduce the issue and then attach the entire log file? Bonus points if you can tell us what time you tried to enter the settings menu.

Thanks!

Thanks.

What is your language and location set to on the device?

And does your menu look like this or is it in English?

This is't working on my AppleTV 3 either.  Pressing the button does nothing.

I'm sorry for you, but i'm happy i'm not the only one  :)

I hope we can solve.

Mine is a ATV4

I’ve had the same issue, and was brought to this thread via Twitter by the Emby community.

This problem is presenting itself on both my Apple TV 3 As well as my Apple TV 4K. Both of them are in the US, and a set to display English.

This issue did not present itself until the new OS tvOS app update.

Okay, we have to figure out what you guys have in common.  I thought maybe it was a language setting but that doesn't appear to be it.

To start with - are you all Emby Premiere subscribers?

Then, can you each show us what your subtitle settings are set to on the server?

Finally, can you guys test this with different users.  Does it work for some and not others?

I wonder if it is the accent characters on some of the language names, although you'd think that wouldn't be a problem because media future could have those characters too.

That was my initial thinking but I set my device to Italian and I can get into the menu so it is something else.

The strange is that i have 2 ATV4, with the same settings (i think) and pointing to the same server. 1 is working, the other not.

I'll report later, what ebr asked

Maybe i found what was the problem.

I found out that i wasn't able to change user.

I gave log out from connect, after that all returned ok. I was able to change user and enter in setting menu.

I hope this can help.

I have a similar problem on my friends appletv 4

unable to enter playback settings and evrything he plays transcodes at 1,5Mbit (low quality).

edit:

He is a guest user, and only signs in using emby connect.

Preferred subtitle language is set to Norwegian.

Subtitle mode: no subtitle.

and he is streaming over Internet (my line is 150/150 and he has 15/3).

Gets this message on server:

The media is being converted into a format that is compatible with the device that is playing the media.

Reason for transcoding:
Container not supported
Video codec not supported
Audio codec not supported
Media bitrate exceeds limit.

Alright guys, thanks.  The Connect login was the missing piece of the puzzle.

I think I have this fixed now in beta and hopefully can release fairly soon.

Thanks again.

I also found that logging off of media connect and restarting the app fixed the issue with my AppleTV force transcoding everything at a 1.5 mbit setting. It is now back to a setting of Auto and direct playing my media again.
