jangle 1 Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Good Afternoon, I have an Intel based CPU/GPU which support H264 (Intel Quick Sync). When I play a file H264 over a web browser using not transcoding it plays with no issue. If I enable hardware acceleration transcoding it is unwatchable. I have copied the latest FFMPEG to the folder and checked and still no answers. I am struggling to work out how to resolve the issue. Regards, Jangle
ThermoDust 12 Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 I know they are going to say it so I will. Post more details on devices (versions and stuff) and log files. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/790-how-to-report-a-problem/
Guest asrequested Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Yup, more detail needed. When you say unwatchable, what exactly do you mean?
jangle 1 Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 ThermoDust, thank you I will gather further data.
jangle 1 Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 Windows 10 Ent Intel i7 4770R 3.2 8Gb 1Tb SSD Intel Iris Pro 5200 Installed - Version 3.2.35.1 Beta FFMPEG 3.4 When I turn on Transcoding Hardware Acceleration and set it to Intel when a web browser plays a tv series from H264 format the picture being played is all grainy with boxes of pixels and nothing clear. As soon as I turn of Hardware Acceleration it is working and the console confirms item is transcoding and all browsers play the episode with no issues. I have used the same machine to convert files to H264 using the hardware encoding and it works with no issue. I have upgraded the video drivers just in case. I am not sure what I can do to drill down on this failure.
jangle 1 Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 (edited) This is the image when Hardware Transcoding is on Edited October 31, 2017 by jangle
jangle 1 Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 This is what it is without hardware transcoding.
jangle 1 Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 Doofus I have uploaded a couple of pictures from Chrome when playing a OFAH episode one with hardware acceleration the other with it turned off.

Guest asrequested Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Have you tried using the default ffmpeg?
jangle 1 Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 I have downloaded the version from the Emby repository and recreated the ffmpeg folder under the server but I am still having the issue. I removed the ffmpeg folder and still have the issue.
Guest asrequested Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Also check your bitrate setting in the app, and make sure it's high enough.
Guest asrequested Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 If that doesn't work, then we need logs.
jangle 1 Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 I downloaded this version - ffmpeg-20160410-win64.7z
jangle 1 Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 Client 1Mbps - Transcoding 1000Kbps ts H254 mp3 Client 4mps - Direct play and still cloudy
Guest asrequested Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 I downloaded this version - ffmpeg-20160410-win64.7z This is an old build. Delete the folder(s) in this location, and restart the server %AppData%\Roaming\Emby-Server\ffmpeg Then use that location in the server for where ffmpeg is. Also, from your transcode log, QuickSync isn't being used. Stream #0:0: Video: mpeg2video (Main), yuv420p(tv, top first), 720x576 [SAR 16:15 DAR 4:3], 25 fps, 25 tbr, 48003.07 tbn, 50 tbc (default) Stream #0:1(en): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 256 kb/s (default) Stream #0:2(en): Subtitle: dvd_subtitle, 720x576 Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (mpeg2video (native) -> h264 (libx264)) Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (ac3 (native) -> mp3 (libmp3lame))

I know, but I don't know which he has, and I've seen Luke tell people to delete and restart. It's what I did, as mine was older and hadn't updated. I just figured I'd cover the bases.
jangle 1 Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 Good Morning Doofus Thank you for the update I have removed the folders. Why is QuickSync not being used when the configuration has it enabled. Is there anything I need to do to get it to be supported?
jangle 1 Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 Good Morning Happy2Play That makes sense now when I removed the ffmpeg folder and everything worked fine.
jangle 1 Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 So how do I get QuickSync to work correctly?
Tranquil 94 Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Hard to say. QSV is still in an experimental state. Its not announced to be stable.
