File Extensions in Titles

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Emby has suddenly started to show file extensions (.mp4/.mkv...) in titles. Is this a bug or a "feature"?

How do I remove it. It's annoying.

Also seeing this since installing 3.2.35.0 (MAYBE 3.2.34.0?). Library type 'Home Videos...'. Type/extension doesn't seem to make a difference. Happens with each new addition. Editing Title & saving fixes it but it shouldn't happen in the 1st place.

It is resolved for the next release, thanks !

Negative, the original video & all other frequent additions did NOT include extension in Title until the update. Just copied & converted those 2 to generate examples. Now, it happens every time a new file is added. None of these videos include tags.

Sorry, you replied while I was composing. Time to de-compose...

The "fix" only removed file extensions on newly added files.

Editing/saving the Title field of affected items was the direct fix while the bug was present. Wasn't a huge inconvenience, as I recall.

Correct. It's not necessarily safe to retroactively go back and change existing titles because some people undoubtedly would be negatively affected by that. Thanks.

The bug retroactively changed the title on ALL files... so the harm is already done...

Apologies for the disruption. Unfortunately it's not so easy to reverse automatically without potentially upsetting others.

Your fix also didn't fully fix the bug. Now it keeps things in brackets like [action, comedy] and (1975).

Of course, if brackets and its contents should be removed or not from titles should really be an option in the settings.

Can you discuss a specific example? Thanks.
